@1p2 1nt here. I wasn't arguing. As an EU citizen, I think I have some grasp of processes. Things in Benelux and also FR started moving slowly, and UK can't be far behind. Emea will look rather different in 2-3 months.....

@1nt That’s true, consultations may have started already. But even then, that’s not how the process works in the UK.
Employers can’t just suddenly announce that people are being let go. There’s a formal redundancy process that has to be followed. Employees must first be informed they are “at risk,” usually through at-risk letters, and then go through a consultation period before any final decisions are made.
Unless I’ve missed something and those at-risk letters have already been issued, an announcement this week wouldn’t be people suddenly being let go.

@14h This is not how it works in the UK. VZ would has to go through a formal consultation process, especially if they’re making over 100 people redundant. That means a minimum 45-day consultation period, with staff first being placed “at risk” and consulted before any final decisions are made - not just announcing redundancies all at once.

What happened to our world class transformative global strategy developed by Verizon Global Services? With 2 vgs presidents in 4 years is it not a huge success?

Yes. They have started. 30 people being layed off in a new COE in EMEA. Which process began Tuesday this week and is still ongoing.

@c3 I have seen U.K. HR people openly say they had a target to reduce payouts to staff, that was a while ago but it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s still the culture
@bx That’s correct. Since the UK is no longer under the EWC, rumors are circulating that most of the layoffs will hit there specifically.
@bq I’m worried that UK workers are going to be offered far worse severance packages compared to the rest of Europe, the US or Asia Pac. I think they will try to get away with vastly inferior terms. Anyone affected should definitely consult a lawyer before signing anything
@bn True that. Then, it is generally easier and faster to execute mass layoffs in the UK compared to the EU. Post-brexit, the absence of strong, legally mandated EWC and national works councils in the UK is a factor.
The process is starting soon, but not all at once l, each European country has its own local labor laws for (mass) layoffs. At least one country office already confirmed ~50% of staff will be affected. Others are negotiating with works councils and HR. Expect it to roll out through March, April, and May, possibly stretching to September in some places for individual cases. A few people have already lined up lawyers to challenge any exit offers.
The legal processes where impacted employees enter into formal consultations has not started yet, therefore no major redundancies will be actioned until that process is complete. There have been a small number of people leaving but nothing related to the major wave of redundancies that will occur
