Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Why they are doing layoffs instead of eliminating H1b full time and external contractors?

Impacted employee. Easily they can eliminate H1b full timer and contract employees instead of doing this layoffs. How can they file H1b and green card when layoffs are happening ?

@w9 subjected to Law Suits if in future they sponsor H1B . Its opportunity loss for some. Discrimination is not permitted

@z5 They laid me off and I have been contacted by recruiters to be for contractor positions, doing the same work I was doing, for more money than I was making. Nothing they do makes any damn sense.

@dp Americans have been brainwashed into hating themselves and preferring anyone else. Its terrible to see such self-hatred.

Very easy to see once an Indian boss is in place, the entire department will soon be H1-B types. It happened at multiple previous companies, its happening at USAA. Welcome to the betrayal of the American worker. They crushed the unions, flooded the country with cheap labor and now you are competing with the world for your job. Remember corporate America hates you, the American worker. Next step to replace H1-B lower paid and ignorant workers with AI. H1-B workers will soon be laid off in large numbers and we will all cheer.

@yx dear American. You’re clearly too stupid to do my job. Idgaf about you’re inbred ugly kid going to school to be a YouTuber. Your president asked for us to be here. Take it up with him.

@yx you have no business to tell me to leave. Came here legally like your ancestors. We may not have special skills, but still got a job here at USAA, at the same pay range as you, and working diligently without entitlement. You may not like to hear this, but America has a history which you may not like to accept. Not my problem. Continue with your bigotry.

@wm hey there. I’m in h1b too. You really don’t have to explain anything here. Just do the job, get paid and leave when it’s time. Citizens here hate their fellow citizens and you are no exception. The place where we come from, we have same issues. So stop this! Thank you!

@yx hey there. H1b here! As promised, here to let you know there are multiple architect roles open for citizens only. Go and apply if you got the skills. I have the skills and probably overqualified but still can’t apply due to visa restrictions. Good luck.

Dear H1B, you're doing what you think is best for you. I'm doing what's best for me. What's wrong with that? Why do you play the Race card?

If I am laid off, and my kid graduating college can't get a CS job, then America doesn't need you. You don't have a special skill that myself or my kid doesn't. You should leave. Period.

Take your money and talent back to your own country and make it a better place. You're welcome! Now go home!

I am on H1B and you have no idea how scared most of us are with all the current political circus. We can't afford to commit any kind of legal violation more so crime otherwise, we'll get deported. We are fearful of going out of this country while on H1B due to numerous reports of immigration holds. It's not easy to be on H1B and we understand that our stay in this country is only temporary. It will take us decades before we can even get a green card. But when we retire and go home to our home countries, at least we'll have SSA to pay us benefits.

@tm go apply to a job at USAA. It states clearly USAA does not sponsor non-citizens. It’s very clear.

More h1b or contractors are on their way to usaa. Some departments are being turned o over to them. I mean usually contractors are the ones to leave first before laying of employees. But I suppose it's cheaper for them to use contractors

Less than .1% (378) employees have H1B visas. Stop creating mountains out of molehills and demonizing people.

@ka we have been renewing and will continue to renew. Between 2022-2024 there were 378 that were renewed. But also hear this number. This is less than .1% of our workforce. Don’t get distracted by hateful uneducated people who can’t find a job.

Regarding H-1B, is it true that when it expires, the sponsor will need to pay $100K to USCIS to renew? If true, that's sad. I can't imagine USAA paying that amount just to renew.

@jm you’re confusing asylum seekers with H1B. H1B employees have been begged to be here. They are thriving. No struggle buss. Asylum seekers typically have a work permit/ green card and may have a much harder story.

We are living in the idiocracy movie.

@hq you do understand that usaa has 70-30 ratio with employees being the 30%? Dude, I don’t even know what to say at this point. No body stole your job. I am in h1b, was a 3p, got converted due to the recommendation of fellow Americans citizens. I wonder if we ever met in meetings!. Are you from EDAO?

@j8 to whom you are selling insurance products to offshore people lol earning money from here and sending it to somewhere else bad logic. H1b employees are arguing that they are coming here and struggling with all the rules and taxes. US works in that way and they know all the rules before coming here. Also some comments pointed that locals are not capable and efficient to compete with h1 people. Really are h1 people scientist level or come with rare tech skills. In this era of AI anyone can learn anything easily. Before 2020 usaa is not a H1b dependent employer and there are no layoffs and it was run by the same local people with multiple years of experience.
Someone posting workday jobs can 3 jobs enough for 600 people you are such arrogant person I ever seen. We locals are not against anyone first we need jobs before helping someone. Whoever posted in the support of H1b please think if this happens in your country like your jobs occupied by some other people even though you are eligible what you will do?

@hq we already do. 90% of products are sold via mobile or .com. Those two channels are supported primarily by offshore contractors.

@gw it’s funny. Then run the company with all contractors and sell the insurance products in foreign countries. No basic sense in your post.

I had a team that was a mix of contractors and full-time employees. The contractors worked super hard, eagerly accepted their assignments, and got them done on time with quality. The FTEs always had their hand out asking for a raise for doing their job, gave pushback on every assignment, turned them in with errors, etc. If you are an FTE, really reflect on if you’re adding more value than a contractor. Are you making it easy to work with you or are you an entitled pain in the a-s?

After 6 months at USAA I decided to move out, this place was cr-p. Entitled employees , incompetent contractors and poor leadership, I m surprised that they haven't filed for bankruptcy.

I have posted another opening, please take a look.

@ek they won’t apply because they don’t have the skills to. They have the college education from the west side of San Antonio and Alamo community college system. Their too busy trying to be white they don’t realize they can’t even get the jobs their screaming about.

I hope the xenophobic folks are spending less time here and more time searching jobs. There are open positions for Information Architects, solutions engineers and software engineers on workday. These positions are not open to h1b. I wish it was because I wanted to apply. So stop being racist and apply if you think you’re really capable, assuming everyone commenting here are from the IT. Most Indians apply in IT positions. If you were not in IT and still attacking h1bs then I am not surprised why you’re spending more time here attacking immigrants.
