China closure, why?

There was no clear messaging as to the “why” of the China office closure. Anyone have insight? Clearly it’s not to bring jobs to back US as replacement hiring has been happening Glasgow since summer.

I wonder if SAS is chasing federal projects that have stated or implied requirements that development not occur there?

No issue with journalists mu---ring Saudis however. #saslife

"employees in R are being shuffled around; no window offices for those who aren't in the office at least two days per week"

That's #SASlife!

I left SAS and my (non-corner) window office in R for greener pastures.

The corner office in my new gig has windows with a beautiful view. It's equipped with a comfy bed and has a private bathroom with a shower just steps down the hall. There's a private outdoor workspace where I can hear the relaxing sounds of nature while I work. The breakroom/full kitchen is stocked with healthy and nutritious food, so no more pre-packaged junk food or mass-produced cafeteria slop. My commute has been drastically reduced to the point that it's no longer painful, and I have an enclosed parking space that I never have to fight for. As a result, my auto maintenance and fossil fuel expenses are reduced, as is my carbon footprint. My dog comes to work with me every day, and we take stress-busting walks together when I need to clear my head. Oh, and I make more money and keep more money than I did when I worked for SAS.

That's #WFHlife!

Be a yes person. Don't have any independent thought. Go along with whatever management says enthusiastically. Smile smile smile. Talk about the #saslife on social media. Congratulate other people on their promotions while not getting one yourself. Doing these things will practically guarantee your employment at SAS for as long as the company limps along. So what's that, 2 or 3 more years?

Oh don't worry about a few negative comments. Everything's fine. The stories in the comments are just whining. IPO will be fine. Viya will be fine. SAS 9 compatibility will be fine. All the young people who won't go near legacy tech - probably just made up stories concocted by a few whiners who will leave soon. A few layoffs are just business as usual. Nothing to see here. Put your head down, be more "hardcore". Everything is good. #saslife

A lot of people commenting here already left and are explaining some of the organizational failures, not complaining about individual job woes. But don’t worry. Everything is clearly fine as far as you know. #saslife

"It’s a good life outside #saslife firewall."

Yeah, I second that. My life since I left SAS has vastly improved. I don't get lectured about not giving my "discretionary effort" to the company, and no one expects me to be an unpaid "brand ambassador" or to "participate" in social media ("on your own time!") to fluff SAS or its fortunes.

And, of course, as an added bonus I no longer have to deal with the toxic management environment or rampant favoritism!

I’m 65 and work as an independent consultant since laid off at SAS. My work is varied and consistent. All SAS 9 legacy code that requires a good amount of experience blue haired people like me have. I didn’t realize how unhappy I was with the daily grind at SAS where little got accomplished. So what’s going very well is I’m happier since I was laid off after 34 years. It’s a good life outside #saslife firewall.
