Can't imagine a layoff before the end of the year, but Q1 2019 you can count on it.
I know of two people that went to our manager to volunteer to be laid off in Oct '17 as both had planned to retire in 12-18 months thereby saving someone else that needed to work. Unfortunately for them neither was laid off and one has since retired and the other is planning on May '19
The only people leaving before the end of the year will be those like the 4 last week in Quincy that leave on their own. No reason to layoff at this point when the severance package will be substantially reduced in 2019.

Which areas were told that the 31st would be their last day? Is it all in KC or is Quincy impacted as well?
Hearing similar rumors for Quincy with either next Wednesday-Friday or the third week in October.
Personally I have scheduled vacation for the 3rd week of October and wouldn't mind extending my time in the Bahamas if I got a phone call.
Were you hearing rumors that Quincy would close or relocate?
Everyone is busy doing the work of 3 or 4. Well with the exception of the manager that floats in at 10. Has a leisurely breakfast in the cafe. Returns to the floor and plays Freecell until its time for their 2 hour lunch and then is the first in the group to leave at the end of their day.
