Voluntary attrition essentially a "soft layoff”

Company has joined other major corporations in implementing a mandatory 5-day return-to-office (RTO) policy, which some view as a strategy to encourage voluntary attrition essentially a "soft layoff”.

Recent reports suggest that the number of employees choosing to leave following this mandate has been lower than expected, leading the company to evaluate additional measures for workforce reduction. These potential "other options" may include involuntary separations, employee engagement responses, or "hard layoffs." While the company continues to monitor office attendance as part of performance reviews, there are currently no specific details on which business units will be impacted or the exact timing of further restructuring.

This week in Houston has been challenging, to say the least.

Since Monday, Hurricane Beryl has left millions without power, including at my own home. It will be a long road of recovery, and with heat indexes exceeding 100 degrees F/37 degrees C, it is dangerous for many to be without basic amenities.

Baker Hughes has thousands of employees in the area. It is a core part of our sustainability strategy to support the communities we live and work. Our employees are safe and our facilities have not incurred any major damage so we are able to support our customers, but we know there is more we can do.

I am so proud of the ways we are caring for our community and putting people first to take energy forward. Some examples:

505 We have announced a $75,000 Baker Hughes Foundation grant to the American Red Cross Greater Houston Chapter. This grant will help provide comfort, shelter, and supplies to over 10,000 people in the impacted area. https://lnkd.in/eQV-GPpU

We opened our headquarters office for employees to bring their families during working hours, allowing them to cool off, charge, and care for each other in a safe space. In between meetings, I even got to give a personal tour to Prudence, daughter of Adrienne Ly--h, our global public relations director.

Thank you to our team members in Houston and globally for ensuring business continuity this week, and every day. It speaks to the strength of our resilience and our core values in action: lead, collaborate, grow, and care.
