Has Risesmart, the outplacement agency, worked for anyone?

Yes, take advantage of their service. I think you have 3 months from your RIF day to use them. They redid my resume and it is 100 times better than the old style. Using them though is kind of like a "free" timeshare vacation where you have to listen to the sales pitch. They did assign me a super-nice guy who schedules a catch-up call once a week.

I used them 5 years ago when I got laid off. Their resume writing service is pretty good. The rest of it was so so. They kept trying to get me to apply to jobs I wasn’t interested in or required an hours drive every morning and they didn’t seem to understand why I didn’t want to drive 2 hours a day for some c-appy job.

The resume rewrite is very well done. Even if you don’t use any of their other services, let them do your resume.

I think they are an excellent source to write your resume. As an older laid off AIG worker a few years ago, I learned the "old style" of resume preparation was out dated. I heard that today companies use computer programs to "read" submitted resumes and look for key words. So, if worked for AIG a long time like I did, times have changed. I got a job shortly after leaving through a network. I still keep the resumes that they prepared. It's free. Good luck. There is a kinder world than AIG out there.
