Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Cheaper is not better

Industry is changed. I work for smaller company now. You wont believe it but i see they take some design from slb, weatherford, smitth, modified it and guess what they sell it for cheap. All they want is cheap, low price, .... . as long as slb want to keep those mba manager, A+ engineer and do nothing. I think they will have hard time to play this game.

I'm sorry but I'll have to disagree with this, @SUyNVYU-dmt. Cheaper is not better. Those who keep looking for cheaper will end up with a sub-par product and will in the end have to search for something better after all, even if it's more expensive. Schlumberger has many problems, but this is not one of them.

@1hax - You are probably the only person on earth to know what the actual price for DELFI is. For the rest of us, this is just as fuzzy as the product content or the underlying business model.

Cheaper or lower prices are here to stay, as the market leader SLB lead the market down this way.

The transformation roadshow was supposed to make us more efficient to compete at cheaper prices. It has not worked, everyone else got cheaper faster and invested in themselves. SLB invested in buying companies in a bad market and lot of powerpoint which all that the transformation will leave slb with i heard! Nothing has been saved.

Too big to change and he keeps trying to make it bigger, it has not become lean mean big and powerful SLB became big and fat and slow. If a differnet approach had been adopted or more reasonable approach it might of worked not with Paal and his $20,000,000 per year compensation and 11% pay rise!

low price, low cost, or simple word CHEAP is the main theme now. you can have top design, new tech, better service but competitor can offer cheap sht just to do what they need. you automaticly out of the game.

Price is not the only reason operators choose from their suppliers list.

Many factors involved

Unfortunately it is true slb cutting edge technology isn't really cutting edge in market, i.e. DELFI isn't even close to what small companies are providing with massive price difference.

One could say, cost of r&d and product development and engineering is really high in slb due to inefficient methodologies and approach. This obviously reflects in final services and products price.

Sure, cheaper is not alway better, but cheapper is what client want. Wait for 5 more year when slb get less and less contract then you know what is better.

"same IQ as a tool - you tool"

Seriously, that's all you got? Did your buddy manager tell you that you have the best tools and now you couldn't sleep all night. Did he lie to you? Yes, no? Slb has the nicest cubicles and everyone smiles. How could he be wrong?

Hahaha

Industry is dumbing-down noticeably. Seems like morons everywhere you turn nowadays who would backstab their granny if there was money in it.
