Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam's layoffs Jan 31

Well, I'm a long term (27) year assistant manager and I'm actually more nervous that there going to KEEP me on than if I get let go.

I've been in 13 wal marts as a co manager and assistant and in 3 Sam's clubs as assistant...and to see how much (little) we really mean to the company is shocking.

In my market, they seem to be eliminating anyone that's been with the company long term. It's as if there flushing out the old way of thinking.

I know a club in TN where a 21 yr old was allowed to stay, employeed for 3 years, and one of the three they let go (co manager and two asst.s) was a 20 yr manager with a 4 yr degree in business. It seems that the minimum requirements they are referring to are age related.

The club In TN now has 4 open manager positions. What hourly in their right mind is going to go into training and potentially be let go the next round. Remember they did this just a few years ago...but the cuts were based on coaching and length of service.

We "old school" managers gave our entire working lives to this company...it did provide a great income and I have been able to take care of my family...for that I am grateful...but the walmart/Sam's we "grew up with" is gone.

People believe Sam Walton was a passive old fellow that was always nice and kind...and he was in the later years where he turned the daily operations over to Don Soderquist and David glass...but I've met Sam. He went into stores in the past and fired the entire management staff. I do believe he would not have approved of the way things are going however...

Good luck to all.....

Believe what you want, Home Office on here putting just do your job here. In our region, I can tell you the experience and biggest salaries are gone.

It is so easy to sit back in Home office and watch what is happening. Stay out of the private jets all the time and let the clubs work, I know you earn your money but your pay and bonuses are ridiculous.. Stop saying you care about the associates and running the company... You care about making money for yourself!

Our Store Manager was let go today with well over 20years and a profit of over 80 million. I guess since he's around 70 he's to old, although he's the first Manager you see when you walk in the door working the floor everyday and thanking his employee's for a job well done.

Walmart and Sam’s are getting rid of managers who don’t or can’t do the job. Many of these managers don’t have the respect of the associates or have a old school way of doing things which makes you not in our future plans as we go forward, contact Sears and K-Mart managers for more details in this...

You sound like a complete whiny baby. Our company is not getting rid of long term managers, we are stream lining our current pool of managers to ensure we have the best talent possible to grow in the future. In my market (37) there have been long term managers and much newer managers that were displaced.

Net bottom line: Do your job and you will be fine. But so often people think they are so much better at there job than they really are. That’s why so many of you are concerned.

I personally am glad they are doing these cuts; get rid of the waste and move forward as a company!

I totally agree they want younger less educated managers in the clubs. I don’t see how they are able to get away with what they are doing. I’ve bed with the company for 25 years I’ve never seen morale fall out the bottom like it has. After a few weeks once you get over the shock you will go on and land on your feet. In the long run they doing us a favor it’s time to get off this meri go round. We will all look back and wonder why stayed as long as we did. Good luck to all of you it was nothing you did it’s all about corporate greed and corruption.

Feel the same way as you. Very ready to go, but at the same time very sorry for the ones that want and need to stay.
