Well, I'm a long term (27) year assistant manager and I'm actually more nervous that there going to KEEP me on than if I get let go.
I've been in 13 wal marts as a co manager and assistant and in 3 Sam's clubs as assistant...and to see how much (little) we really mean to the company is shocking.
In my market, they seem to be eliminating anyone that's been with the company long term. It's as if there flushing out the old way of thinking.
I know a club in TN where a 21 yr old was allowed to stay, employeed for 3 years, and one of the three they let go (co manager and two asst.s) was a 20 yr manager with a 4 yr degree in business. It seems that the minimum requirements they are referring to are age related.
The club In TN now has 4 open manager positions. What hourly in their right mind is going to go into training and potentially be let go the next round. Remember they did this just a few years ago...but the cuts were based on coaching and length of service.
We "old school" managers gave our entire working lives to this company...it did provide a great income and I have been able to take care of my family...for that I am grateful...but the walmart/Sam's we "grew up with" is gone.
People believe Sam Walton was a passive old fellow that was always nice and kind...and he was in the later years where he turned the daily operations over to Don Soderquist and David glass...but I've met Sam. He went into stores in the past and fired the entire management staff. I do believe he would not have approved of the way things are going however...
Good luck to all.....
