Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Allstate management

It's clear reading the posts that managers are viewing this site and responding. How come? Don't you feel comfortable to call a staff meeting and ask your subordinates what their concerns are? Ha.

Just think if you actually shared the information you claim to have in the official channels to allay loyal employee concerns there might not be boards like this. Instead we get jargon filled fluff and none of the directness you "managers" state on this board.

There is absolutely long term plans that will impact employees at Allstate and they are not being shared. Transparency what a joke mgt wants it from staff but provides none. hypocrites

WHY ARE MANAGERS ON THIS BOARD LOSERS!!! you have INSPIRE and your BS yet you seem to still need to search net for opinions which tells us workers: You are pathetic managers who dont trust your official managerial system but need to go outside system for info. For workers its fine, for managers, you are sad and pathetic--YOU are miserable and should resign from managtment if you cant trust your input from direct reports, that you scan internet sites. Truly pathetic. Post your names gutless wonders or quit either way company better off without you. as for job market, there are FAR more positions for workers vs first line "performance leaders" whatever your name is du jour because YOU DONT DO ANYTHING. Hey, have you realized CI is focused on micromanaging superivors not workers? Because you havent dont anything to contribute to bottom line for 15 years. QUIT OR STEP UP. - FIN -

Dude, the claims support provided is pretty poor at best from the QFC dept. allstate is hoping customers don’t repair their vehicles with those lowball checks and just spend the money . People pay good money to Allstate for excellent customer service , not for Esurance service ! Look at how Esurance is catered to a certain crowd and then look at Allstate customers and how Allstate is catered to a different demographic. Agents , who only know sales, are now having to jump on the phones trying to get us field adjusters back out there to rewrite QFC estimates and explain and re explain poorly written estimates. Shops are telling us they don’t want to do our jobs for us regarding virtual and sending QFC more photos . The fact is we are paying more Rental than ever before because we are trying to run a billionaire dollar company with bare minimum staffing in the field . Out here in the West we’ve been running 7-10 days behind on getting out to inspect cars . More work created with less staff equals pissed off customers. Shapiro’s just thinking about his pockets. We should just become Esurance .

To rilp ---You post about sums it up. Some shops won't even let the sub contractors we hire in to just photo the car for QFC at a shop. Their explanation is that they want a licensed adjuster in, not a photographer. I am by no means a shop advocate, but this is why maybe THEY SHOULD have tested it longer. However, the lackey that devised it will say they did and it was ok in test.. There is/was an expression I used to hear from time to time which I hate. It was something like this new policy is "Doomed to Succeed." To the 40+ manager out there on this post how well did SSU work out for you? Allstate likes to tout that they are always changing, like it is amazing. In some instances it seems like they are indecisive or just borrowing failed programs from other carriers. CI was taken from Liberty by someone in Chicago. The insidious thing behind QFC is shops will adapt by creating charges or getting a retired person in to photo supplements (they have to keep customers too) to deal with the Insurance companies. They all will eventually charge more and Allstate will ask the State for a rate increase. Allstate has now shifted costs back to consumer. They company has cut their overhead by have less staffing so profits will go up. Dump your company stock when there is a shake up in Chicago. Who knows, at least you may make some money for your efforts. Cause we all know its about people and I would totally agree if I was a Doctor the whole oath thing and all. Here to feed my family. Don't worry y'all Kool aid drinkers, I am working get my foot out the door. I am TOXIC this place made me that way. After this rant, I will never look back. If you do find a way to make it work or you ride out the insanity, god bless.

Facts:

Supplements HAVE NOT increased significantly. They are up slightly, as expected.

Shops ARE NOT refusing to participate in the Virtual Assist supplement process, and the take rate is what was modeled, and field adjuster staffing planned for.

I’m not sure what the “personalized service” our customers want is; is it the waiting 4 days for an inspection ? Is it the taking your lunch break, half day off work or your Saturday morning to drive 12 miles to a Drive In, so you could sit there for a half hour ? Th exams person is writing their estimate and explaining it to them, except it’s done in hours without the customer driving to us. “Personalized Service” ?

I sure miss my bank teller.

Management says technology (resulting in the creation of QFC/Virtual) is the reason why Allstate doesn’t need that many field adjusters, but several markets have reposted field adjuster positions after realizing QFC is resulting in more supps and shops prefer field adjusters going out to address supps. Many shops tell us in the field they aren’t going to do our work for us by taking photos or writing estimates, resulting in delays in us getting out to the shops since we are now shorthanded due to the layoff if our fellow field adjusters. Talking to field adjusters from other companies they’ve said State Farm tried QFC and it failed and Progressive uses it as a last resort in nonstaffed areas. We are paying more RENTAL than ever before due to delays in getting out to the shops! Shapiro should have ran a test pilot program for a year before laying off so many field adjusters. Our customers want personalized service from a field adjuster especially since they can’t get through on the phone with their inside adjusters. This is creating more calls in the field from agents, insurers, claimants and our own rental departments trying to get statuses on their claims because it’s a cluster.

40 year manager, I don't care who you are or where you are. I just think with the current corporate culture of job analysis, and forced turn over for "fresh ideas" how have you survived? Your desk must be in the basement or something. CI is nothing more than a tool to weed out employees and pit them against each other. It is also helpful to management to document the bogus statics pulled off of those crappy reports. So you can fire them later. What is the buzz words you use at your accountability meetings? There is noise in those numbers. PLEASE. With 40 years in at least I know you are not Glen. What does he have, like 3.

"40+ year front line manager here, and I’ve remained quiet up until now, but I feel the need to weigh in. " My question is with 40 + years in WHY ARE YOU still working and why have they not pushed you out the door? For the coin you are pulling in and I assure you they are NOT paying managers and at State Farm or Nationwide what your are making, they can get 2 eager beavers to replace you. It is all about the numbers and it is CI world.

Post ID: @PrT1OTi-ovxp - I'm not going to give up what's been told to me so far to give away who I am and where I am. Nice try though.

As for the 40 year front line manager, I'm not saying that change is a bad thing. I'm not sure what the other people on here think. I'm saying that CI makes for stronger teams, with more teamwork. It helps to delegate work so that everyone actually has work to do, and not one person being swamped, while one of their co-workers is out flitting around the office doing nothing.

40+ year front line manager here, and I’ve remained quiet up until now, but I feel the need to weigh in.

Yes the company has changed, and impacted my role. I had to say goodbye to a couple of employees I hired, but it’s also not the end of the company.

I was here when we went from manual paper estimating with crash books to mecahnized estimating.

End of the company ! Not.

I was here when we introduced DRP. At the time, it handled over 50% of our business.

End of the company ! Not.

I was here when we introduced laptops to field adjusters.

End of the company ! Not.

I was here when we bought our own body shop chain.

End of the company ! Not.

Things change. Hopefully for the better. Its not always been the way I would have done it, but as I look back, had to be done.

If some view the change as end of the company, you need to wake up.

I am a manager.

Morale has not "gone downhill", in fact most of the feedback we receive from multiple sources reflects higher levels of engagement and job satisfaction. Yes, I know, "everyone lies to us in those surveys".

I don't believe you're an employee, or you'd know we don't have "10 layers of admin fluff". There are 5 layers of management between the top of the 16,000 person organization, and the front line employee. That's consistent with most Fortune 100 company's.

Facts matter.

PrT1OTi-lhfm, maybe you should stop looking at the facts, and worry about the employees. Get your head out of your a--. Morale HAS gone down because changes are being made, and instead of telling the people WHY, you all give the same answers to everything. "It's coming from Home Office" or "because that's the way it is in other MCO's". You "managers" hole up in conference rooms all day, coming up with nonsense "rules" and take away things that used to make it nice to work here all because you want to play some numbers or metrics game. Take it from the people who aren't management. You're going to end up with a ton of robots working for you. Or maybe that's what you really want? Or maybe that's the way Home Office wants it?

Miserable people that have talent and ambition should find a career that fulfills them and makes them happy. I was unhappy with a former company, and I did. If you’re miserable and stay, you should think about why. There’s a big world out there.

You are correct, facts do matter and as a recently retired manager I can tell you morale is absolutely at an all time low. There is no transparency and many people are concerned about their jobs as they should be. As a long time employee I am embarrassed at what the company has become and feel bad for the many friends that I left behind; they are absolutely miserable.

I'm not poster but people CLAIMING to be managers this has be interesting to read your response. You are reason morale is gone downhill your more interested in pleasing the dozen levels of middle mgt at HO then employee feedback. No questions why poster feels way she he does just ... Quit. The real issue is Allstate is has way too many levels of unnecessary middle admin jobs : you have producers/claims, supervisors, mid manager, and vp. Not Allstate there are 10 levels of admin fluff that would cut overhead and your time will come. Karma, don't worry. State Farm is hemoragghing mid mgt and don't worry your in line . :)

We're all, including you managers, soon to be ex employees when the regional megacenters are consolidated in about 3 years. Your awesome managerial attitude won't matter and I think the person is pretty negative but I understand it. To the employee or whoever started post the first line supervisors are just in dark as us so when they say their are sharing everything they are. The NC office fell out of sky but clearly that was part of long time plan that wasn't shared with workers at Allstate. Just always network have safety job work hard at Allsate I do with good attitude but I have no illusions about Shapiros care for his workers vs his stock options. Great attitudes won't save your job but why be miserable for 9+ hour days I figure.

I understand the employee and agree why is mgt on this board? I think she/he has genuine point are you managers worried about your jobs or your daily mgt and the Voice isn't enough? She/he is upset dont know gripe but I can relate as soon to retire employee. My exit interview will not be positive company has gone downhill and I may have more seniority than you fast track ho types. Don't lose touch with your producers : agents and 1st line claims staff everything else is admin fluff. I've heard some CI shapiro koolaid is latest fad, sorry when you have my perspective I'm still stuck on Scientology in the 70s who management at Allstate that was the answer.

Why do you always assume everyone is miserable? I never said I was miserable. I like what I do, I like the people I work with, I like talking to my customers, I welcome change. I just think that being tied to numbers is not necessary and makes us feel like we are in kindergarten. I've been in the corporate world for a long time, I know what works.

You are entitled to hold any opinion you want about "the direction the company is going", but some facts;

1) stock trading at all time high in the past few months

2) margins/profitability of the company at all time highs

3) policy growth above planned levels

4) Claims out performing every target, and contributing significantly to the company success

You don't like the fact that your world has changed, whether you still work here or not, and it's not going back. In fact, the changes are coming faster, and we'll look different a year from now. If you don't like change, you're going to remain miserable.

Post ID: @3sjt+PrT1OTi

So wait. We're toxic if we don't like the direction of the company is going? Hey, I'm all for progress and keeping up with the competition. But the numbers game they are playing is not what's going to keep employees happy. CI is a joke. Millennials that are coming into office jobs want the Google experience. Open floor plans, engagement, perks, flex time, etc. Not "oh, your aux time is over 75% on the phones" or "how many things do you have to do today" As for the management. You can't get to anybody if they're always in meetings and you have a question. You can't get your work done if you're waiting on management to approve things. And no, you can't speak your mind on a survey or in person. There will always be repercussions.
