Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Forget layoffs

After several weeks of anxiety and agitation I decided to just forget the whole thing and start focusing on all my projects. I put in for the voluntary RIF since I am going to retire at the end of the year so have been disappointed in the lack of information and/or action.

However, I have felt much better this past several weeks in getting my focus off the RIF and back to my work. I think it is best to focus on the fact that Honeywell is a pretty good company. Most companies focus on the bottom line such as ROI to stockholders, etc.

The time where companies were more compassionate about their employees is mostly over so get over it. Have a grateful heart and do the work you were hired to do.

Do you work for Honeywell HR? Yes HW has been good to us all at some point...no doubt! But think of what this "New World Corporate Philosophy" will do for our children. In Europe they have strong unions that help balance the Corporate vs Workers objectives. We in America have bought in to the Capitalism rhetoric so far that we now are not willing to stand up to Corporate America. Only ~20% of American's invest in the Stock market and are rewarded. We are saying FU to 80% of Americans if we buy into the "More Corporate profits the better" mentality. Most of the 80% don't make enough to invest in the stock market. They are trying to survive week to week. And education is no longer the answer since most countries have cheaper or Free education available. Our government and Business have worked to F__K us all. Time for increased unionization and import tariff's for Any business moved out of this country from this point on.

The people who don't lose their jobs are just as much victims. The work still has to be done, and without the subject matter expert on hand it will take twice as long. Meanwhile the company is going to be cracking the whip to get it done in half the time, or as part of your free overtime donation. No, everyone is going to be truly #*@%ed, and that includes the shareholders.

Who are you kidding? No matter how valuable you think you are, Honeywell has no loyalty ties to employees. They are an impersonal money making machine, no more, no less.

I was the person who wrote "forget layoffs". I do understand those of you who are young with families. I've been there myself as a single parent of two kids and it was a tough time for everyone. The day of staying in the same job all your life is over and it truly is a shame. Companies are no longer family owned but are large corporations who really don't care for their employees much. They are considered a "cost" and not an "asset" anymore. The only advice I can give is to save your money and don't get engaged with keeping up with the "Jones". The future is bleak and it will be difficult to retire at the age you want with the amount of retirement income you need. Seriously, I feel bad for you and for my kids and grandkids. Our government hasn't done us any favors and has basically destroyed a good future for our families with the national debt almost 20 T. Greed and Power have become the norm - the day of principled politicians is long gone. Just look at our choices for President this year!!!!! Very sad, very sad indeed.

I have no doubt we will loose some good people. The managers will need to answer up if there are gaps in the basic plant operation. How funny that is.... submit a plan to do the same work with a lot less people. The higher ups will blame someone else rather than have guts to tell them it can't be done. Maybe that's the plan..... Honeywell knows all our health risk factors now, so just keep us overworked and stressed out until we just die on the job. Word to the wise... polish your resume and start looking now. I can envision two (1) week furloughs in Sept. and Dec, both months with three paychecks

Yes, just ignore the problem and do your job. Sounds great except I would have trouble explaining to the wife and children why daddy doesn't work anymore and how I asked for it by putting up a request for a RIF. No I'm sure HR would love to have all of us just work real hard and submit our requests for voluntary. Takes the burden right off their hands. Great advice.

I am actually in no danger of getting laid off. I am rated very highly and am in a critical position but for me, the dark cloud that they put over us while we wait for the RIF to happen is ridiculous. I spend a third of my day counseling my employees who are worried about their job. Come on guys, just rip the Band-Aid off! Also, for me, the furloughs just &#%$ me off. Now I am hearing rumors of a TWO WEEK furlough. Really? When does the insanity stop?

Surprisingly we still have our 401K match - that was one of the 1st things to go in the past.......
