Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Brian and the Board of Directors Have Lost my Respect

I was worried about the new CEO, but optimistic. Now I know why the board was aggressively looking outside of Target. They knew going into this that many of us would lose our jobs. They could not hire within as our executive committee could not do this type to its own company. I understand business and how we need to undo the mess Gregg made of the company, from hiring all of his buddies and creating departments that made absolutely no sense and giving everyone titles who did not deserve it. We did not stand a chance with him at the helm. Let's face it, there will probably never be a Bob at the helm again.

Yes, the company is top management heavy. Yes, the company could use some restructuring in some departments. I DO NOT believe we need to be this drastic and insensitive to the employees who have been loyal for years.

By Brian starting with telling Wall Street and not the people whom it will impact, I have lost respect for him. How does this build moral and develop a stronger team? How does this help the community, of people who shop at Target? This is such a distraction while trying to do my daily work for the company! I love Target, I will always love Target. I have big concerns about how this was handled and how I will think of the board of directors and the CEO after this. I trusted you to treat me with the respect I treat you. It will take a while for me to get over this.

I know I will NOT be voting for any of the current members of the board of directors in the future.

I know Brian will move on in a few years and we will just be a blurb on his resume on how much money he saved the businesses, but what was the true cost of this decision?

I am so tired of these people who do not even work at Target posting on stuff they know nothing about. A person at Target (if they drank the kool-aide or not) does not talk like this to another TM. They do not use phrases like this or like I've seen in other posts. He is a lonely guy who has nothing better to do than to try and pick on people who have a job...at least for now unfortunately. Maybe he was not given hugs from him mommy when he was younger.

I bet 75687 is an alpha male too. All other alphas I know also use cute little stars to hide their swear words.

I completely agree. What are the long term effects to the Target team? Do we have too many layers? Yes, and it should be addressed. Does it need to be this drastic? No. Has it been handled respectfully and transparently? Absolutely not. All I see is an arrogant CEO climbing his own ladder with a blatant disregard for team and a board who hasn't taken any responsibility for letting us get fat in the first place. How many talented people of the future will steer clear of Target? How many people will move on anyways because they don't want their careers managed this way? People are not productive when they are scared and they do not do good work when they feel disposable. Turnover is expensive for companies and Target HAD some of the best employee loyalty I have even seen.

Thanks, I believe what I posted. I have worked for the company for years. I have worked in different pyramids and at a few different buildings (even the dreaded TSF/TCW.) I have enjoyed the work I have done and people I have met over the years. I don't think I have ever had a time where I did not feel proud to say I work for/with Target...until now. We all have been through this type of thing before, but it was never like this. BTW - I am not a Sir, I am a Mam =)

I absolutely agree with you about Brian going to Wall Street before he shared with Target. The internal email came after he already commented to Wall Street I believe. Such a shame.
