Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

RIF 2024, Its Happening!!!!

The second wave of the RIF for anthem has started! 20% of the labor force to be cut by the first week of March! All meetings will start this month. People leaders will have the choice of selecting who is to go. The last time it was by seniority to avoid lawsuits. This time the people leaders will select the employees. At the same time the restructuring of teams and titles will commence. Some will get severance packages others will not. Others will receive offers for other roles. In addition two more RIF's are scheduled for 2024. These last two will be market specific. It has nothing to do with performance and all to do with margins. It has been determined that the company productivity and performance increases after each RIF. Anthem has mastered managing by fear! Happy 2024 and praying that you are not affected and those that are get at least a package. Will continue to update!

Does having a part time job impact the severance? I currently work 2 jobs, this one being my primary job. The other I don’t make hardly anything, it’s just for extra money. But does that impact anything?

This is terribly sad. I was impacted on the 10/20 round and had 20+ years at anthem... I was a people leader in quality.

My advise is to begin to prepare your resume.
Apply for as many jobs as you can outside of elevance.
Use tagcrowd.com to compare job key words to your resume and see if you are missing import trigger words. Most companies use AI and just filter for key words and if you don't have them you will get passed up even if you are qualified.

Supplemental pay will be your base salary minus what unemployment pays.
Health benefits will last until your severance is over or you get a new job more or less ..

If you get a job before sup pay is over you will get half of what payments remain.

Hope this helps a bit. It took me 2.5 months to land a job again and just had the one interview,
I applied on LinkedIn and various companies. Did not get many bites...

Layoffs at this company will never end. It is part of the business model. Anyone who thinks its over is in denial. There are two ways out of here. Leave of get layed off!

Today at our group meeting we were told there are more to come in the upcoming months. Specifically though who have written warnings will be targeted first. Followed by those with lower seniority on the team.

To @7qve+1quqlVHp Can't be sure if we're in the clear or not. I know Woodland Hills had a WARN out for 87 people with a terminatoon date of 3/29/2014. From replies in this thread, it does seem like they were already informed so we could be. Can't be sure with this company.

Are we ALL CLEAR with this RIF round? Or more to come this week, this month or this quarter?

Jobs are leaving the country, then we sponsor H1B to take the remaining jobs.

Layoffs used to be tied to market conditions, now they are used to appease stockholders and the board at opportune times. That means there will be no rhyme or reason as to why from our perspective.

Jobs are leaving the country. Soon we will be the H1B somewhere else.

To ScaredofRIF: I would say that layoffs/RIFs are the new "normal" for not just Elevance/Anthem, but for all large companies. Citigroup just announced that they are laying off 20,000 employees, Google has been laying off hundreds of people, and so on. I would expect RIFs on an ongoing basis going forward. It's the new reality unfortunately.

Does anyone know if this round is done as of last week or will the meetings and layoffs continue into the coming weeks? Also, if done for now (man I hope so) any indication of when/if the next wave will be this year? I’m so scared and I’m so sorry for all those affected.

FACT - people leaders (direct managers) had NO SAY in who was let go. All pre-selected by Sr Leadership and TOLD to the managers.

My entire team no longer exist and I’m being transferred to another department, same responsibilities. I can’t help to think I am teaching my new team everything they need to know just to be RiF’d in the next round. I’m not too concerned, my loyalty is not with Hellevance, but I am traumatized and a bit concerned for those that were severed. Post transfer, I will carry their role and more in my wheelhouse. Are there pay increases for individuals who transfer with more responsibilities than before? How do you ask for an increase during a time like this? (First RIF experience in my career)

Write your Senators and congressmen and let them know that this major Reduction in Force is occurring.

@5mtj+1quqlVHp I wouldn't even begin to train anyone to do my job if I was part of the RIF...I learned the hard way as I tried to make the transition easy for them and it came back to bite me--use this time (30/60 days) to focus on yourself and your next chapter. I literally talked to my immediate supervisor via email once from the time I was notified about the RIF until I left 30 days later. My dotted line manager NEVER once asked me for a updates on any of the projects I was working on or any sort of business continuity plan (which I was fully prepared to complete...but wasn't asked!!). It's a numbers game to them! I wish you all the best!

Has anyone ever heard of them keeping you on after they let you go because there isn’t anyone that can do your job and/or be trained in time to take over?

The country needs more H1-B to fill jobs! Someone has to replace all those 40 and 50 year olds we lay off! America last politicians, executives, board members, and elites say so!

They Absolutely can RIF when on LOA. They did me last year while I was on maternity leave! It made it hard since I was in hospital for 6 weeks beforehand and after due to issues and complications.

@4gja+1quqlVHp Yes a RIF can impact individuals on leave, either sick leave or FMLA. In the case of a for-cause termination during an individual's leave the employer would have to document that it wasn't retaliation for taking leave. But a RIF isn't for cause.

Bet Gail won’t take any big pay cut off her millions she makes yearly…. Some of us just want to make an honest living and take care of our families but per them it is “all business”. Next job that I obtain, will be a small family owned company not major corporation. After 15 years here, and being let go it is just a kick to the cr---h to say “we do not care about you”.

Healthplan Ops leaders had their staff removed and either placed under GBD “Operations HUB” or moved to the plan pres. Many of us have been instructed to continue to do the same job without the title. What a slap in the face to those of us who have worked so hard to become people leaders. 15 years, two moves across states, and a demotion. Thanks Hellevance.

Lots of people received a grade reduction, just to be let go at a later time, because some grades do not qualify for certain things- If you received a new role, trust and believe you have 30 days top. When grades are changed the company must wait 30 days to let you go at the new grade.
Others were asked to continue to work until the second week of february! Stay alert stay alive. Maybe an oportunity to start and do your own thing!

I just heard from a long time associate at the CA plan their position will be moved to enterprise, so they’re staying, but their position is being reorganized. Another associate at the WellPoint WA Medicaid plan who was fairly new, maybe 8 months or so, was laid off, their last day is early February… I am worried for me and other co-workers…

I am a "people leader" and I was 100% caught of guard yesterday when I was advised layoffs were happening today and who is being laid off. We had zero discussion. My associates impacted were lower performers based of their pre lim performance review.
