Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

RIF 2024, Its Happening!!!!

The second wave of the RIF for anthem has started! 20% of the labor force to be cut by the first week of March! All meetings will start this month. People leaders will have the choice of selecting who is to go. The last time it was by seniority to avoid lawsuits. This time the people leaders will select the employees. At the same time the restructuring of teams and titles will commence. Some will get severance packages others will not. Others will receive offers for other roles. In addition two more RIF's are scheduled for 2024. These last two will be market specific. It has nothing to do with performance and all to do with margins. It has been determined that the company productivity and performance increases after each RIF. Anthem has mastered managing by fear! Happy 2024 and praying that you are not affected and those that are get at least a package. Will continue to update!

It came as a complete shock to me. It all feels like a dream. M. Even though there is a speed bump in the road it doesn't stop me from getting over it. I am looking forward to creating new and exciting next chapter(s) of my life!

PSA:I am not angry about what happened. Thankful to have had the opportunity, time, respect and experience to work there.

If you were on th RIF list.. am seeing posts about 26 weeks paid and also supplemental severance, similar to unemployment. Is the difference based on years of service?

I retired on February ‘22, after working there for 25 years. My group was outsourced, around 400 or so. Then my smaller group of 3, two of them were Rif’d, then it was just me. I got all the Execs and problem people who cried the most to management to resolve their technology issues. I just got fed up with the BS. On the morning call all everyone did was complain about the company, Gail, Gloria and the rest of the cronies.

It used to be a great place to work until profits before people kicked in.

History of RIF at Anthem was each year at November. Apparently, looks like they are doing year round.

As far as applying for other jobs internally, that did not work for me,
As far as applying for jobs externally, well, almost felt I was blacklisted although
I applied just to test that theory. Too many good bosses left and replaced with bonus hungry toxic bosses.

26 weeks paid. It was a relief to get out.

Never give up your work life balance. Your boss gives his up because he working for a 100K bonus that you will never get.

Just found this site, and all that bs that I thought I was over with just came rushing back. I was one of the RIFs recently. I know I butted heads with my supervisor at times (he didn't like people coming up with a new ideas or questioning how things were being done). We always kept it professional even though he has the personality of a mean girl in high school trying to recreate her glory days.

Reading that "This time the people leaders will select the employees"....it feels like he had it out for me. I was trying my best to think that it was just business, that it wasn't personal. Now I wonder how much personal bias was involved??? This su-ks.

I can tell you, I am just as upset as everyone else. I worked in this company from ground up. I had 31 years in and rifted in and got a severeance/unemployment package for 26 weeks. They call it a severeance/unemployment benefit, I didn't get paid for my service in full. I was due more than 26 weeks. I worked 40 hrs over in one week with management approval to handle a project, they knew I could handle it, I would get it done. I've worked 397 hours overtime in one year trying to get work out. I was straight out of high school and worked my way up. I have never been so disappointed as a United States citizen to work as hard as I have, and fought so hard to get a job with this company and build it up to be broke down, as I am now.

I received an email from HR, “ this is a follow up to the conversation you had with your manager”.
I never had that conversation, and that’s how I found out that I was part of CarelonRx/Elevance (Anthem) RIF.
What a great way to treat your associates, especially someone who bled for the company for over 21 years

The board mbrs nor Gail give two cents about who made money for them. Spark is here to assist in getting rid of additional employees. It does not matter if you work for Elevance, Carelon, Bioplus today you have a job do not count on tomorrow. If you make $25 hr a person in India, Philippines, Korea, Belize is willing to do the same job for $2.50. It's about saving money not about quality.

To the person who says that they would not assist us in finding a new position within the company you’re absolutely correct. I have also literally begged for help from several recruiters within my specific department. I got absolutely nowhere with any of them! I feel like it’s because they are doing away with the virtual aspect. Although I was told some are being grandfathered in. I don’t think it’s right they have my position posted on a different team, but the exact same position and will not offer it to me. Especially since I have been a good employee since 2009!

All I know is there is a lot of jealousy in that company and people will back stab you fast to be sure they keep their job.

To the one who ask about the job yes it affects it. Because it’s an unemployment supplemental and what happens when we read the instructions it says you have to apply for state unemployment insurance meaning you were totally unemployed when you apply for that you let them know and they will do all the necessary paperwork to pay you the difference between your normal pay and the unemployment pay that your state will pay out. For example, my state pays out $300 for unemployment some may pay more and some less. So they will pay me the difference between my normal pay and that 300. You have to confirm with your state every single week that you are indeed unemployed and you also have to tell them that as well at elevance to get the $. I’m gonna drive as much money as I can and the only job I’m going to be working is going to be one that pays way over what I was makin if I take something else.
