Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Welcome to the new TMO

After 12 years with Sprint, I was amazed about the T-MOBILE culture in the months after merger. I joined an all Magenta team and everyone was amazing. They had a passion for their jobs, for their customers and their team.

Things changed starting with the vax mandate and the gradual shift to Sprint like policies. Many of the high performers recognize the change and left saying “this is not the company I loved” leaving me to slide back into life as it was before merger. Shallow teams that do not care, a culture of me first, leaders that lie at every turn to protect themselves. Basically, TMO is now no different from any large corporation.

The bottom line is stock growth, executive perks and efficiency. No compassion for you as a person and no passion for the customer experience. Profits above all. This focus on profit will actually have the reverse effect as it did at Sprint and as we see with Verizon and the others.

What a sad moment for what truly was an amazing company. RIP Magenta

I never worked at Sprint and I’m curious which new policies are Sprint-like. Is this a frontline thing?

"Which policies go you find to be Sprint-like?"

You must be from Sprint. Otherwise it's literally painfully obvious what policies are blatant contradictions of old T-Mobile values

"I would bet you a dollar, my last one, that you aren't nor have you ever been a Sprint person"

I would enjoy very much spending this person’s last dollar.

I was from Sprint. Sounds like you would put your last dollar in crypto. Be careful what you bet on.

I think it is extra painful for people like me who knew deep down that they are a POS company where everybody is putting on a performative show. But then there were moments you caught yourself believing in some of the culture stuff. Letting your guard down is natural as you are also surrounded by some awesome co-workers who are your peers and friends. But the SLT is absolute garbage and they are never held responsible. The company at its very core is now a rotten cesspool.

After 12 years, a "Sprint" person would have always been...waiting for their package. FACTS....

I would bet you a dollar, my last one, that you aren't nor have you ever been a Sprint person. That is a set up post, likely from a whiny victim wanting to blame Sprint because EVERYONE now see's what is behind the curtain: nothing.

Amazed? I too was placed on a Magenta only team. Some people are nice, some are completely self serving. In my opinion, the entire experience has been full of performative people and shiny objects. My goodness - phony executives, circular immature processes, over engineering of the simplest of tasks. Amazing PowerPoints though. Complete clown car cluster.

A Sprint person, amazed? Come on now. THE DOG CAUGHT THE CAR. Don't blame Sprint.

It's so true. I remember the days where I'd go take a po-p in the men's room and would not flush. I'd laugh when someone came out later complaining about it. That all changed when they introduced automatic flushers.

The vaccination requirement has nothing to do with anything. It was going downhill well before that. You sprint people were just so used to it being worse that to you it seemed like sunshine and rainbows. Please keep your antivax views out of this. It has nothing to do with T-Mobile's corporate greed.

T-Mobile was never inherently different. It’s just easier to be a good company to work for when things are going well, and the company manages to catch a he-l of a wave (lots of it due to luck but Legere and Sievert think it’s all them). That growth is slowing down big time in the next couple years and it’s harder to be a good company to work for in those circumstances. A select few can do it, but this is a poor leadership team and they are panicking.

Reminds me of this quote from Margin Call. Not quite as dramatic but either way it hits home recently.

“So, what you're telling me is that the music is about to stop, and we're going to be left holding the biggest bag of odorous excr-ment ever assembled in the history of capitalism.”

You thought TMO cared about you, you thought they were your friend, the reality of it all is that you are just a number. The ride was good, but all things come to an end. As a Manager, I am told by my manager that the ride is coming to an end. Its time to accept it and keep doing the job we are doing until you get that email to meet up with your new Director.

My management keeps saying there will me major changes in September. Not looking forward to it at all!
I need to look for another job. This company has gone to cr-p. Hope I'm in the upcoming "list" if not... I need to get off my butt and look elsewhere. Good luck everyone, one way or the other....

There's no master plan, what a joke. There is no real plan or accountability at a leadership level - that's the problem! So they just spend until they run out of $$ then have to start firing people before EOY. Get out now.

If you are selected in the coming round of cuts, be happy, take the money and run. Being left behind to keep the dumpster fire of a company T-Mobile has become will being far worse that leaving. Also, spread the word to those you know to stay clear of T-Mobile. It simply has become a toxic company that couldn’t care less about its employees and demonstrates that on a daily basis.

Well said. They put on an incredible dog and pony show with Legere at the helm, meanwhile crafting this master plan behind the scenes. Now us plebs are left holding the bag.
