Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I've received over $65,000 in awards/retention bonus's only to be given my walking papers

When AT&T bought the company i worked for around 5 years ago, I was given a $50,000 retention bonus to stay on and keep working on the platform they wanted. That platform is still around, and hardly anyone else knows how to use it.

Over the last five years, I have received nearly $20,000 in other performance and individual incentive awards, including bonuses for two patents my team worked on.

Well, none of that matters—absolutely none of it. I told my manager I wouldn't be relocating last week, and this afternoon was on a surplus call. Despite recognizing my time at the previous company for 401k vesting, only MY actual att time is recognized for severance. So here's to 8 weeks of pay, and I won't be answering any calls or texts when that platform crashes, and no one knows how to fix it.

Good Riddance!

Many received retention bonuses a few years back ....mostly Level 3 and above. I know multiple people who received them. Truth.

Well…I’m assuming you came over from Alienvault and one of the few that were actually left. They all got retention bonuses and then more retention on top of that. What was once a heralded move to drive cyber revenue with existing customers has turned into kore garbage and they’re selling off cyber any day now as well.
This company should burn in he-l for how they’ve treated me, others in the past , and now tens of thousands.
Yet note: there is life after AT&Sheet.
There will be many hard times yet persevere and you’ll be better off

Sadly, all those bonuses are probably why you are let go. Someone ran a report and said look how much we can save just reducing a head count. They don't care. Neither should you.

8 weeks pay is good. They’ll hire a wire tech to maintain your old platform. Wire techs are smart with computers.

OP - similar situation. I bought a house with the bonus. Thank you for telling us about the severance. 8 weeks is not worth the trauma of staying on.

Your platform is going away. You already know this.

@1lbv+1nlGsokI It was paid out six months after the acquisition if I was still on the payroll.

From running a system nobody knows about except him?

To be fair, he said no one knows how to run that system, he never said he doesn't know how to do anything else.

Op i believe you. I too received roughly 12k in connection awards in 2022. I never received retention pay but I know it’s been paid. I also know of numerous SMEs who possess optimal knowledge of key applications and if they leave there will be he-l to pay to figure them out. Due to poor leadership and lack of resources to have backup support, the knowledge was never transferred. They’ve just been kicking the can down the road but turning a blind eye toward the mess it’s going to create when these key people retire or get cut. It will be fun to watch from my beach chair. What goes around comes around. I’m out of here on my own terms in a few weeks. I’ve had enough of their BS and I’m ready to hang it up. Wishing everyone the best.

Was the retention bonus still in effect and paid out?

Sorry to break it to , if you are the only one on this earth that knows how to fix this platform, then it is not worth the salary they are paying you. What is this super specialized platform?

@rak+1nlGsokI, you can not believe me, but I paid off my student loans with that 50k.

If any of this is true (and I have my doubts) then you’ve done pretty well overall since T came into your life. Consider all of the compensation from bonuses and awards as your severance if it makes you feel better. Re: this super critical platform you work on… newsflash, it’s really not that important, and neither are you. And I know that sounds harsh so let me also state that neither am I. It’s is what it is. Take some time, decompress and then go find another job.
