Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Return to Work

Surprise surprise…… another change….. they are back on the return to the office bandwagon. No more flex worker status and TW only with medical exception. Everyone will need to go in 2-3 days a week to the location listed for you in Webphone…… meetings to relay the message have started, new policy will be out this week I am told. Apparently they are mad that no one went in as they were designated so we all have to pay as a result.

Pay parking lots and restaurants are dying. Stankey has made a commitment to them to boost their bottom line.

Trust me in this economy people are not going to restaurants daily if at all as most will be brown bagging it until the economy turns around.

so funny that you assume someone WFH is milking the company or lazy, production at WFH is major up, if boss needs ya, grab laptop and help not drive in hour too late to help, T should stay with WFH for those who want to, and those who have someone to collab with and want to go in, let them... flexibility thats the future....

Everybody has a good excuse to WFH. However your boss will do what he/she is told to do. You can run but you can’t hide.

Just go back to work. There are many folks out there that would beg for the job you have. Driving to the office and paying for parking would be their privilege. Whine, whine, whine!!

"Called in to an internal support department today and I had a difficult time hearing the employee that was trying to resolve the issue for me due to the small child screaming in the background…. If this employee would have been in the office where she belongs, I wouldn’t have needed to ask her to repeat herself a dozen or more times."

There will be more background noise in the office. Get used to it.

Definitely a hit on her ability to be productive along with being detrimental to my productivity. Call start and duration and userid were emailed to my manager with a request to have this investigated due to the adverse affects on my numbers.

Some jobs require you to be in-person as the nature of the job itself. Others do not. We aren’t all customer facing or need to be in a truck or store to do our jobs. Many of us are Office/desk type workers where we spend our entire day dealing with folks that are all over the country or overseas via conference calls. I don’t need to be in an office building for that. As a matter of fact, being in an office building actually hurts the productivity of what I’m doing due to noise, distractions in the office, and having to commute to/from the office limits the amount of time I can spend working. I’m not co-located with my team or collaborating with people (unless you want to fly people in). It just doesn’t make sense. The company really should cut the number of offices and spaces to save money. If people aren’t working or getting their jobs done remotely, cut them.

I’m in the same boat and they required us to come in 100% because we are cwa wfh was rescinded. Only difference is we’re non management union bargained. 100% a laptop/phone call job. All union peeps came back 100% oct 12 2022.

"Know how many days I got to WFH? Zero. The excuses I’ve been reading on this forum about having to return to the office are so petty. I know some whiners will hit the down arrow on this but don’t care. Sorry your WFH privilege bubble got busted and you aren’t grateful for what you were given but y’all obviously will never be happy anyway."

Sorry that your skills do not warrant you to WFH, it is not for everyone.

Big pressure to go back coming from real estate owners, restruants, parking lots, stores, etc. Local economy needs you back at work. Lots of lobbying going on too.

I heard there's a waitlist of over 400 people to gain access to the one parking garage in downtown Dallas. One garage for 4 high rise buildings. Until you're off the waitlist, you're welcome to pay $8 to $15 per day to park at other non-AT&T garages within a 10-block radius and hike into the office.

Yeah. Nice planning, AT&T. Good luck with that.

AT&T did not have 100% WFH privilege. My department has never been able to work from home (only the managers). Never understood that

The only reason T is pushing RTO is because other companies are doing it. T is a follower. And since we know all their decisions have failed so far, this will probably fail too. Maybe when they come up with an idea they should do the opposite. Maybe then we’ll be successful

Quite honestly everyone that is being ordered back to office should do nothing... becasue when it went 100% WFH this company had its best quarters, years ever (got to tell you it is extremely successful) Makig me drive 1.5 hours to office, to sit on the same telecon I am doing from my home office with no one rom my team next to me is extremely stupid, makes me mad, and shows me the company does not care for me or my situation. Why not fly me out to Dallas or Atlanta to meet and work with my co-workers- always told we cant spend money to do that. and in new office situation where we dont have any office to sit in, I am totally distracted listening to 50 other meetings and people talking loudly where I cannot do my work effectively

I hear all 100 conference calls from people next to me at work, completely unrelated to what i am doing + the fact i am not able to concentrate with 2 or 4 people talking behind me while i need to do my work. I am not bitter, but they are paying me to be less productive, thats their fault.

My org is back in the office but with no face to face team meetings so can anyone explain the one twisted little brain cell in management's head regarding any logical intelligence in their rationale as to WHY TF we had to come back? Management is so f'n stupid.

Companies evolve, change course, etc. We as individuals do the same. At some point an individual’s needs, lifestyle, beliefs, goals no longer mesh with the people we hangout with, best friends, wife, girlfriend, things we associate with, and things we do. When that happens we as individuals can make changes in our life to better align with the person we are. Given this freedom we have to make changes like this, why even fight what T wants to do? Do what is necessary for the short term and find a job with a company that meets your expectations and offers the work environment that fits you. Neither you or the company signed a contract where either party committed to offering the other anything for the lifetime of their career. I see both sides but at the same time why be miserable. We all know that Carrie’s over to your personal life and relationships. Why let T and its rules do that when you have full control over making a change. My comments probably do not apply to a person with 25+ years and still hanging on to let their pension grow but I do not think there are many of those left. For the rest there is nothing T offers you to warrant hanging on for years to come that you cannot get elsewhere.

This is how I’m less productive:

  1. Morning commute + walking to building + walk g to desk + getting coffee/settled/hang up coat (vs 0 time wasted WFH)
  2. Long walks to the restrooms, cafeteria, etc (10 steps per activity WFH)
  3. Annoying chatter of people in completely unrelated orgs/depts that ends up being distracting and time wasting (0 time wasted WFH)
  4. Actual lunch breaks away from my desk (not a bad idea but definitely less productive)
  5. Working minimum hours to avoid traffic vs working late into the evening

Maybe the RTO does have perks. Less time being productive.

At&t is a 147-year-old bureaucratic utility. It can'tpossibly behave like a nimble, IT startup for legal, financial and other reasons.

The mistake officers make is in not knowing what AT&T can and can't be. They are tricked into schemes by other officers and outside interests due to the lack of understanding about AT&T's true identity.

It’s never been about collaborating anything. They just want to micromanage everyone and do everything they can to make sure no one ever enjoys any aspect of their job. And they wonder why they culture at this company is terrible.
