Severance and Vacation Time

Question 1 - Is there the option to defer severance to the next calendar year? Question 2 - Is remaining vacation paid with normal paycheck or with the severance?

Cannot believe anyone would ask this type of question on this forum. Seriously, asking about pensions, severance, vacation pay as a result of surplus or retirement is as monumental as knowing the facts when preparing to vote--meaning do your own research! Read the docs, reach out to HR and financial experts. These people probably know less than you do. Remember the phrase, 'reading is fundamental'.

in the case of Legacy T CWA it would generally be that if you were surplused or took a VTP you would get all of your unused vacation paid out, but you would not be paid out for floating holidays and any unused hours of flex time.

If I remember correctly there was a point where you accrued 100% of vacation starting Jan 1. They eventually found another way to short change us.

Yes you have option to defer severance to next year. Only accrued unused vacation is paid out in the final check. You won’t get paid for the full year’s vacation unless you’re surplussed in December.

One thing that surprised me is that vacation time was pro-rated--Last day was May 4, ended up losing about 2 weeks of PTO pay. Would been better just to have used it up.

If you were in the July round, going to say you had 12 days of PTO for the year to keep the math simple. If by July 1 you had only used 4 day, you would get paid for only 2 more. You lose the other 6.

No on first one. Fir second question paycheck for vacation comes on last regular check. Take the severance when they give it to you and run like he-l.

If you were "let go" halfway through the year and you have taken NO vacation, you have only accrued half of your vacation for the year. That's all you are entitled to.

For mgmt (don’t know about union), you can defer severance and unused vacation is paid out, but only the amount you have accrued to the point you go off payroll. For example, you get 4 wks a year. Use 1 wk in the beginning of the year, which leave you balance showing 3 weeks. You go off payroll on July 1st, that means you only accrued 2 of the 4 weeks. So, in the end you’ll get paid out for 1 week, not 3.
