@31t no need to make it based on something as gameable as a tariff per LOC (many programming languages ignore whitespace so all code in those languages could be written in just one line). Just tariff the import of "services" 100% and suddenly all offshoring will have effectively doubled in cost. That handles demand for offshore labor.
On the onshore labor supply side, fund public online universities to provide cheap educations for the types of labor that are currently provided by offshore suppliers. US labor cannot compete with offshore labor when US labor has massive student loans to pay for their education.
US private medical costs effectively make US residents poorer than residents of all other English speaking countries, given the same wage since they have public medical systems for all their residents, but that's a totally different problem for US labor supply prices.
@2gp I did that. I proposed a per line of code tariff for all software developmed and/or tested outside the United States. I got a long letter back basically thanking me for my thoughts. It’s going nowhere. In the end it doesn’t matter. Sabre is a dying company whose customers are leaving en masse. The handwriting is on the wall. Eventually even non-English speakers will be gone. I hope they know who’s going to be turning off the lights. Back to office mandates are meaningless.
In general - In current company state, individuals do not matter much. If by the visible numbers you are not effective, (or not on the planned road to success) you will be replaced by someone with better number or laid off.
This can work both ways ofc. If you are in a poorly operated product in LCC, it can be moved to a more expensive location (although this is much less likely. Probably it is more real to have blr to krk than blr to slk..)

You are never safe at Sabre.
If you are in an English speaking country then you will be replaced by cheaper people in a country that doesn't speak English.
If you are in a country that doesn't speak English then you will be replaced by even cheaper people in another country that doesn't speak English.
Even the executives aren't safe. They will be replaced in a couple of years when they cannot hide the fact that we still depend on the mainframe and no customers actually want our AI products.
Nobody is safe at Sabre.
I guarantee there will be another layoff before 2027.

Good luck if you need support after 10am central. They've all gone home so they don't miss the train. The customer waits until the next morning for their support. Insane.

Nowhere is safe. Sabre is not safe, the industry as a whole is not safe. 1000s are out of work right now. I am going on 6 months for the second time in 2 years, living off contracts when then come.
