Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

I've had enough

I need to leave, and I need to leave now. I can't do this anymore. Every day I have to listen to people who don't know my job tell me how to do it and give me terrible advice while they're at it. They make me to do things wrong despite my protests and when it fails, I'm the one who takes the blame. I'm so done with this sh-t.

@1ea the amount of talent that was let go is so stupid. I know of about ten people that asked if they could move to the Waltham or Charlotte office and they said it was Frisco or bust. Inept leadership at TIAA

@1ea did that report include some 100+ in Denver? I used to get the term report.

Was depressing to look at almost every time but I didn't see the Term report before my last day yesterday.
It is... bittersweet. I mean it so raw/new to be away from this place. Like I'm glad to be done with that Temu ceo and her underlings/minions but I miss my now former team and so many great coworkers. Good luck to all who are still here.

@he Facts. American is being built for Indians and currenly being ran by the Islamic Muslims. Every month, there is a law being passed to cater to them.

It really is fascinating how terrible middle managers are at this company.

@nx I'm right alongside with you on 7/1. Finally GTFOH! T never cared to go on camera or an email to say a few words to the Denver team members of the upcoming closure. it's always her puppet handling her dirty work, while she's collecting meaningless awards to add to her bloated ego.

@OP thankfully my last day at this wretched place is Wednesday. Su-ks to be out of a job in Denver and leave you all behind but I couldn’t relocate. Especially not under this leadership team with such a pathetic ceo and top shelf of boot lickers under her.

@mh

Anyone who knows this company at an operations level knew this wasn’t going to happen. Accenture is outstanding at standardizing and automating workflows. When you have a million different plan rules that have their own rules standardization goes out the window and everything becomes very difficult very quickly.

Now we’ve lost a good chunk of the people who actually knew what we were doing making it even more difficult for them to figure out what to do. I feel sorry for everyone still around trying to deal with this.

@k8 i thought Accenture was supposed to solve all of our problems or at least that is what was sold to us. what happened ?

@am yeah results not good. The C-suite should count their lucky stars that we're not public and that the board has been asleep for years.

@OP This is an Indian company. No longer American.

@az I know someone that did this and they shared the experience with me. They got a letter from their primary care physician, and they just so happened to have a therapist at that time, and also got a matter from them. They filed the short term disability claim and it was immediately approved. Any and all communications from their manager went through the claim rep at MetLife and the rep fully supported my friend and didn’t bend at all to the manager or TIAA. Anytime the manager asked for an update, the rep asked my friend “how much detail would you like me to tell them?” Of course, they had to give enough to satisfy the disability small print, but it was essentially “the employee needs more time, and can provide further documentation if needed.” He took the full amount of time to stay at the 100% pay (maybe a few more weeks). When he came back, he said his manager had changed their tune and he heard through the grapevine, she had meetings with our ethics group and other employees came forward with instances where the manager was causing undue distress and burden. Eventually the department downsized and their were two managers handling the two teams and they ultimately picked the other manager and she was sent packing. All in all, it worked out and my friend is now at a new company and doing well

Sorry for the rant, but wanted to shed some light on the experience that I was told about disability leave. It can easily be provided with the proper documentation and MetLife (is that still our disability provider?) was very supportive of the employee

To the OP - happiness isn’t linear and hopefully you take a different path soon and get some relief.

@az as a former TIAA Denver laid off associate now working at a competitor.... I second this. If you can take a break for your mental well being do it and do it now. Don't transfer internally as it's same shyt different team.

Also know that basically every FinTech insurance/retirement company is like TIAA. There may be less of a inept CEO but everything else is basically the same. Banks are way way worse though so steer clear of those.

If you plan to leave TIAA, I would say go into a different industry entirely. Note transferrable skills on resume and apply to anything else anywhere else.

Please take your time and look for another job. Do not leave abruptly and hurt yourself and your family by doing something impulsively

It may be worth exploring short term disability / leave for mental stress. I have known someone at TIAA and others at other companies who have had to do this because their jobs and managers are so awful. You will need to talk to your doctor and get some type of documented proof and plan to submit but may be a better option than suddenly quitting. It can help you bridge into something else. It will be a pay reduction.

Cmon having 20 people on a call who don't know or do squat critique your work was great use of time. And then to see that they are all Director or senior director with no one reporting to them was the cherry on top. Sarcasm.

Your timing is right because the first quarter financial disclosures show a net loss of $580 million dollars and an 8.8 percent drop year over year in participant contributions. No bueno. No bueno en absoluto.
