Tracking Typing and Mouse Clicks

So we were informed that we need to have 7 hours of steady typing, mouse clicks and phone per day. After removing allotted lunch/breaks, that is 100% of time chained to a desk? So we are forced to drive hours to sit in an open plan sweatshop just to continuously type and click? Wasn't the "purpose" of forcing everyone into an office for COLLABORATION? Why does WF hate their employees?

@ye You nailed it. There have been several calls lately during which this one psycho CRO person went off on everyone repeatedly -- lecturing and scolding everyone like a condescending abusive parent and repeatedly threatening to complain about people to the head of their group (and making good on those threats). Yelling and ranting and raving at people for things that aren't their fault. Just incredibly rude, unprofessional, and unnecessary. And such behavior is typical for this person. Everyone knows they're a total bully but nobody does anything about it. On the bright side, they do this so often that no senior leader takes them seriously. Like the little boy who cried wolf. That part is kinda funny since this person has no idea and zero self-awareness. But still really su-ks that people have to take all that abuse.

@w2 The Chief Risk Office is way worse. They make Compliance seem almost helpful. And the way they all stick together and constantly refer to themselves as IRM is just gross. They act like a high school clique that delights in bullying and tormenting everyone.

@tb darn straight. My compliance folks won’t even talk to anyone directly, they think control is there to do all there work for them while they ruminate on more ways to slow everyone down to desperately disguise they don’t actually understand risk or regulations as applied to real life.

@s4 more like15 people to make a minor decision, esp. with "IRM" inserting themselves into EVERYTHING and making each task 1000 times harder than it needs to be just so they can throw their weight around and try to justify their jobs. would almost be comical if it weren't so effing frustrating.

Also in control and I literally get pulled into meetings all day long because this place requires 5 people to make a minor decision. I can’t even multitask because I have to pay attention to everything being said to make sure it doesn’t go off the rails (again). No way I’m meeting this - the develop u post is hilarious and probably 100% true

True rolling out in tech. To get ready i just randomly click my keyboard. Here’s the crazy part- the develop u courses we have to take don’t have enough clicks so doing training with flag us with low productivity.

P5 and I got my hand slapped for my home productivity not being as good as my in office productivity. Was told it is tracking mouse clicks / key strokes every 90 seconds.

They started testing this in technology late last year, and it was 6 hours of "productivity" needed per day. From what I've heard, it's 3 down from Charlie on up that have access to the reports.

Would be nice to clearify what job function you are referring to because I would say 99% of the reponses you will see will scoff at this. Hence the resonses so far.
Why?
Because nobody I know of (and I have been here decades) works like this or would even tolerate anything remotely like what you are describing.
So, you must be describing a call center type job. Which most of us on here do not do.

Yes, this is real. It has not rolled out everywhere yet. Global Operations is one of the first. Managers communicate that it's not intended to track individual performance but rather broad trends in a department. Yeah, right. If those trends don't meet some arbitrary standard of productivity, how do you think they will solve that? Yes, they will analyze who on the team is low productivity and research why. It may take a year or so before it really gets widespread but it is a thing. Just like MS Checkin isn't going to be used to track each employee's location. hahaha.

They are tracking everyone in every group. Each OC member has their productivity data. It's based on keystrokes and interactions on Teams. You get assigned a segment of "productive time" for each action.

They know what the enterprise average is for "hours worked each day" and where each OC group falls. Because of this stupid math, they think there is massive capacity (I.e. we are not working full days), so expect to see deeper cuts in staffing to reduce this received slack. Just freaking crazy.

@b9 my guess would be a call center. I worked in a call center here years ago and it was literally the most miserable depressing job I’ve ever had. You have to stay logged into the phone system, breaks and lunches are scheduled, and any time you had to use the restroom you had to put your phone status in a special code. Every minute is tracked and you are reviewed on your adherence to the requirements. I truly couldn’t believe a job so horrible existed here or anywhere else for that matter.

Maybe hourly call center employees..

But as a salary employee in cards, they dont track anything besides the in office stuff, or if they do they sure don't use it.

First determine the idle away timer.
Set alarms at random times and return at various times within that span on random days. That way there would be no pattern involved.
Upon returning at least click something refresh email, navigate a few explorer windows. Randomly leave it on something every time you leave. When returning, do more movement in a different order.

How is it even possible to manage a steady 7 hours? Like what if you are in an in person meeting? I know they are tracking but they didn’t give is a minimum number. I wonder if they track content? Like what’s to stop me from using a keyboard tapping device just to make sure I’m typing when I’m in the bathroom or getting a drink of water. Wasn’t there a Black Mirror episode about this?

I just set up a stuffed dummy in my chair and have a tape recorder produce sentences like "Jiminy Cricket, I am working mighty hard here, folks". I have gotten more positive responses and compliments than ever before. Wells Fargo is a dream come false
