Is it worth trying to negotiate a better leaving package at ANI?

You can definitely negotiate, I did.
With regard to pay-off, I got the standard package which they wouldn't budge on. What they were willing to haggle on was the recipe that the Belfast office uses for their hot fish curry. For awhile, I wasn't sure they were going to hand it over, but I persevered, and now it's mine.
Next steps from here is to take the redundancy and use it to start up a food truck.

Not really. If you speak to a solicitor they'll say yes...but it'll mean not getting a payout for potentially 12 months.
But you can ask what criteria the payout based on...if you're close to a work anniversary you could ask for that to be rounded up. Worst they can say is no.
Payouts are still good...but that won't last forever
