Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

For whatever reason, they tried to sneak me into COBRA after my layoff. If I hadn't called to fight it I'd have had to may 800 something dollars. But for some messed up reason, they want to still make sure I pay something so I have a 300 something dollar bill (thank you useless offshore rep) that I have to once again fight.

Oh and the reps were all offshored. Man fu-k this place and its current leaders to he-l.

What are they billing you for? I thought COBRA was just the opportunity to continue your medical coverage? If you don’t pay it you it just cancels? Like any other kind if insurance…?

@a4 I guess if your severance is contingent upon you paying that (and assuming the severance is > $300), then just pay it. Otherwise, if its not, you could just not pay it, let them sell it to collections, and ignore it. The collections will eventually give up or you can settle with them for half or something I've heard people are able to do. Its medical related, so it may not hit your credit. You can research it to be sure.

But ya, the absolute garbage of having to deal with the offshoring and the lack of quality that brings is crazy to me. They truly get what they pay for after all.

@at I already called 3 times and had useless conversations with people that confirmed the balance will be 0. I emailed this time to get things in writing.

Worst case, I will pay by the deadline but I will have to look back at my experience working here as a dark chapter of settling less than what I deserve. How toxic is it for your employer to try to squeeze money out of you after being laid off?

@OP a little confusing, but something similar happened to me.

My last day of work was a Friday, and the pay period ends on a Sunday. My health coverage technically ended the following Sunday, which is the beginning of the new pay period. They are allowed by federal law to charge the full premium for the next pay period even though I was only covered for the first day of it.

They don't HAVE to, but they can, so they do, and that gives us an idea of who we are dealing with. And it took about 3 hours on the phone to understand it because Cigna dgaf about their employers.

@a3 You would think that they would want the "severing" to be done well but no even more pain for no reason.

I'm at the point where I will probably just pay the 300 by the deadline and yeet them out of my life forever, but I am trying to have them guarantee they won't have surprise billing now.

Was laid off at a different place and the icing on the cake was an attempt at getting my pay stubs in the period between when they disabled my access and the very final severance package stub. Similarly, the support was offshored and it took 2 attempts and 3 different people to get the files to me. You cannot make this up. A process that took me 3 minutes while I was employed to do as self-service took 4 days with 2 attempts, the first being a failure.

Imagine if it had been any more complex than "please give me a copy of these files that already exist". Unreal.
