Any Counteroffer Experiences?

Might not be the best place to post so my apologies but has anyone received an L3H counteroffer recently when attempting to leave the company, particularly with a competing offer? I know it is generally recommended not to accept a counter but I’m curious if anyone here actually took the counter and stayed…were there any negative consequences?

Took counter once when I tried to leave during the COVID years hiring spree across the market. Was also given RSUs as enticement to stay. Ended up leaving a few years after that anyway because the place became even more toxic and left before my RSUs even vested because I got a better offer at a better company. My advice, leave. You'll take this counter and then continue to get sh-t raises for next 5 years anyway and they'll guilt you by saying well we blew all your future raises on the counter even though the counter was just to bring you to market rate.

The company (or companies) that expressed interest in you will feel as if they've been duped into helping you get a raise. They will place you on their "do not hire list".
So, those bridges have been burned.
L3Harris hates the idea of an employee "holding a g-n to their heads" to get more money and it will only work once. If they were forced to capitulate, they are already cultivating your replacement.
As far as the other companies, you're still on that list.
It's very cold outside my friend. If you get an offer from a better company, take it.

If you accept the counter, you're saying 2 things:
#1 You have no place else to go.
#2You applied to a another company as a bluff to trick L3HARRIS into giving you more money.
Result: You are stuck there forever. And they will treat you like shyt when ever they want

No counter but wasn’t expecting or hoping for one. I got a much better position and pay elsewhere within the industry by leaving and I no longer deal with the draining daily dysfunction and politics at L3.

I accepted a title and salary counter a few years ago and the people that understood my value were glad I stayed. I expected this to facilitate growth that I was looking for but it never happened. Instead, I experienced the same old unproductive delusion and unnecessary control from mid-tier folks that forget what the industry should be about. In the end, I regretted accepting the counter instead of trying out something else that was promising.

I did. I received an offer from a competitor that was 25k more then I was making. L3 had to promote me from L4 to L5 to match. I received a 4% raise this year as well when most got 2%.

They left the door wide open for me and didn’t even bother to try, but that’s because I didn’t blow all my money on top of the line kneepads to please my management chain. I wasn’t about their fake people game in order to get promoted. No need to be in the je-k off circle of trust getting 2% merit a year and all the fake career promises, all while cost of living skyrockets daily. They’ll realize my value real soon and the work I did really mattered once they fall from their clouds. I wish them luck. If you’re already putting all that effort to get interviews and a final offer letter, then why not just leave? If it took you that much effort just for them to give you the match, than you’re really just as pathetic as they are. They don’t value you if that’s what it takes to get the money you’re looking for.

Yes people have stayed when recvg a counter offer. If their motivation was money only, they were happy however I think it’s a horrible practice L3H uses in order to give a (deserved usually) increase. Unfortunately, that is more times than not, the only way to get a more fair compensation. If their motivation is not strictly money-and it rarely is-that “issue” that caused them to look outside of L3H (or if they are being poached-drawing their interest away from
L3H) is still there and they end up leaving later anyway. As for negative consequences, yes. As stated the issue doesn’t go away so that’s one but they ‘silently’ resent having to issue a counter-whether by your request for it or not. Trust me on this. Good luck.

@0P. While no direct experience, please keep in mind you in someways have already made your decision to look elsewhere. When L3H history of laying people off, by accepting their counteroffer, you are putting a target on your head. Remember, they are doing what is in their best interests, not yours. If you were that valuable, why not reward you sooner? Good luck in whatever path you choose, and remember you have to look out for yourself, as they won’t do that for you.

The issue I've seen is then you might feel obligated to preform even better because they are paying you more. They expect more of you. A counter generally means they need or want you to stay. If you already have a foot out the door for whatever reason, keep moving that direction. yet dont burn the bridges, sometimes the new job isn't what they said or promised. Ive know several that have come back.
