Does anyone have the job description for the receiving captain position? Looking at some job postings and curious what it actually entails at your store. What do you do besides fulfillment and working the truck deliveries?

If it’s anything like the dock “captain” at my store. He’s mute, and when he does talk it’s to say “I don’t know” while he puts away one towel at a time. Sure he’ll unload truck. But if he’s not he’s in fulfillment loitering around because he doesn’t wanna work and wants to do the bare minimum. All while keeping a notebook of who’s talking to who and reporting that stuff to management. He’s the boy that cried wolf.
Yes, these are the type of sad individuals macys promotes LOL
All comments here include what receiving captain does. How many trucks/week depends on store volume. My store is just under 20M so we're 1 truck/week except holiday.
In my store besides the truck and the other duties they also help with sale set an markdowns when needed
Depends on the week, if its heavy in deliveries, that'll probably be the only thing youll be doing. Usually youll be right along side the team unloading freight, opening boxes, putting them on rails, and sensoring, all before the next day if you are lucky to not have a huge trucks.
It also depends on when the trucks are. If you have early morning trucks, you probably will be helping out on fulfillment, when the truck schedule allows, but if they are late night, fulfillment may only be part of your job during Christmas time only.
On weeks with 1 or 2 trucks, usually your OOM will find other back of house operations that can be done, ie penny packing, RFID tag up, stock room organization. But really anything and everything is on the table when it comes to making your hours for the week. You got to take what you can get so you might be part of a floor move.
@OP receiving tasks generally include unloading the trailer, sorting merchandise by department or selling area onto either flat bed carts or rolling racks, delivering to salad for the following morning.
Receiving is also responsible for collecting hangers and sensor tags from rap wrap stands.
Outbound processing where you send out RTVs, damages, recyclables such as hangers, and cardboard.
Receive and deliver packages from third-party carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and trucking companies
Help out in fulfillment when needed
