Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

For those who were Laid Off, if WF asked you to come back, would you?

If the bank asked you to come back, same pay, same position, as if you never left, would you do it?

@K6 where did you find your job?

@rj can I ask where you found a remote position. I have very limited options and I certainly couldn't go many places in person to work. I don't leave the house.

No way, Jose! After being at WF for 20+ years and then being laid off, I have been searching for jobs for 6 months. I have only had 1 screen call and the job offered no benefits. Really? It is looking like I will retire and crate a side hustle. I don’t know if I can take banking anymore.

@f4 I just got displaced today. This is directly from the Displacement FAQ Document:

"If you accept an offer for an internal posting during the Displacement Notice Period, you are not eligible for severance pay. If you apply for and decline an offer for a position through the Find Jobs tool during the Displacement Notice Period, you may continue in your current position through the Displacement Notice Period and may be eligible for severance pay and benefits upon displacement, provided all other terms of eligibility are met."

My new job pays less than wells did but alot of less bs and more flexibility to work remote. I would not come back to wells even if they offered a 20% increase on what I used to make there. The leadership and culture were awful.

That being said I found a job fairly quickly and I know others that have struggled to find one in this market. For someone that needs a job and is struggling to find one, the benefits were good and I can understand why someone comes back for those reasons alone.

No, this layoffs has shown me how leadership really moves at WF. If you su-k up to them and share, you will get to keep your role. If you come in and work and go home. You will be out of there. Been thinking about leaving for a while and this layoffs was my push to find something else.

It would have to be a pretty sweet deal. It's hard finding a new job and starting over.

@ka makes one begin to wonder why they are so hellbent on being in the office. It's like covid was an inconvenience, but in a way, it wasn't. As far as remote work goes. We now know it can be accomplished.

I wonder went so horribly wrong along the way to make them like that. And it isn't because of real estate too many buildings or the economy or collaboration. Seems there may be something far sinister at play.

@cg same here. I never thought it would have been something like that to take me out. Reliable employee, no corrective actions, no attendance issues but because I couldn't make it to a hub, I had to train my replacement.

Can't travel that far medically and the accommodations team said they'd stop approving Dr notes after some time even if they approved it in the past. Chronic and lifelong... so I had to take a severance.....

No, there are better options. Truly. Start saving now and recognize you’re better than this toxic, gaslighting organization. This is a place with poor leadership and dedicated employees who keep being used and abused. Once you step outside of the bubble, you realize the brainwashing and toxicity was real. Hope anyone reading this realizes it’s best to have a plan and find a better option, and never return back if laid off or resigned. Everyone I know keeps complaining that it is only getting worse.

If it means I lose my tenure (starting over at minimal PTO) and it falls in the window where I will not get paid my severance, then F—k no!

You know, well I'd actually consider it but highly unlikely though for two reasons. I'd have to have an medical accommodation to be able to be full remote and I'm not sure if my manager likes me all that well anymore for some reason. They deleted my social media request after being told they wanted to stay in touch, attempts to reach out are like throwing them into a black hole.

However, they did add me on another platform but don't follow me back so. I don't really get the point. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
I figured all this animosity came from being on the fence about going to another hub, then ultimately not going. But I explained why, but I guess they never believed me.

yes I would. also, i believe that if you are receiving severance and get an offer from wells, if you turn it down you loose your severance. if you accept an offer that also stops severance

After decompressing from the stress and toxicity and being able to look at my former worklife in a more objective manner, I would never go back to WF. While I met some great people there, the top leadership has created a meat grinder of an employee environment that will chew an great worker up and then treat them like yesterday's newspaper once they are done with them - leaving the employee mentally, emotionally, and physically damaged. No thank you - never again will I ride that Stagecoach. . .

I’d consider it if I also got to keep my years of service & if I didn’t have to relocate. I enjoyed my team & was only displaced due to the location strategy.

part of your compensation when working at a toxic place is to cover the premium for you to grin and bear it. focus on your savings, your kids if you have any, and keep interviewing after you start back at any toxic workplace. shut down your laptop at 6pm and dont think about it until 8am the next day. take the money - less than 1% of people are working in their dream jobs.

@bd agree 100%. I want my career back minus the bad mgt. I have 5 months of job loss with no prospects. The future is not known. Bad mgt took it away.

A lot of knee je-k reactions here.

The answer is it depends. Are you struggling to find a job? Are you desperate? How long can you last without a salary?

I'd rather work here than not have a job.

@aj Name a corporation or even a bank that isn't corrupt or being run by a club member in this date and age. If I took a job as a Walmart Greeter making a third of what I made at WF, would that be more respectable? Even though they've been in the news for pretty rotten things including some dirty doings on the conspiracy level. Would that save one's soul? If there was nothing else out there, if my family is on the brink of starvation then yes, I would go back, come h*ll or not. Most of you would do the same.

No f'ing way. It became the most toxic place I ever worked in my 40 year career. Banks in general are no longer great places to work.
