Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Q re AI Impacts

I want to see what people on this board think about the impact of AI on our industry or specific roles/teams. I know that things are already happening and that there is no going back, it's not looking good. But I also thing that the impact is not going to be linear and that some parts will be affected more than others. What do you think and are you seeing it already. I am in Finance/planning so impacts have been limited so far but I can see situations where some of the low level work is completely done with AI.

There's no way AI can replace our dept. From what I see, it's a total mess. No one knows what they are doing, what dept. to go to, who's who, or how to solve or fix issues. Upper management still has no clue as well. Paramount made such a huge mess of things and laid off people who made the company run efficiently. Oracle may work great for some, but no one can figure out how Oracle works or how to submit work correctly. There's always some technical issue every single week. What AI or even automation could have made simple has turned into such a huge undertaking. It's absolutely frustrating and painfully tiring. I really don't understand how even AI could simplify this mess of a company!

Did you see the new movie trailer with AI generated Val Kilmer in it? The whole entertainment industry is doomed if you can just create new movies and music with dead stars. Who needs new talent? Just stick with what has worked in the past.

Entry level jobs are doomed since AI is pretty much at entry level experience now. Yeah it makes mistakes, just like an entry level employee, and needs oversight, but it works quicker and cheaper.
So I feel really bad for those kids trying to start their careers. They may need to pivot into something they werent prepared for.

There are all these procedural shows that do well on cbs and have high rankings on Netflix. A lot of people want the same thing over and over again with minor variations. Ai is perfect for that/goodbye to many writers rooms.

It seems like getting new hires is close to impossible. AI tools are helping my group stay above water with the work load we've been giving. It's not perfect but it has saved us time overall (even with manual corrections).

My spell check made 6 mistakes on a 6 page report I made yesterday, and they are so quick to hand over the keys and replace people. There needs to be balance in the world. Outsourcing jobs outside of the country, and to AI does not “make America great” if people are broke and can’t afford to buy products. Saving money, by hurting employees is not a good long term investment in the country suffering…

Ai codes well but who will take responsibility if no software engineers left

On the creative side, people who know how to use it well will be rewarded and kept.

Everyone else will lose jobs.

Yesterday I've seen some AI engines that sp-t out dialogue scripts based on very detailed persona characters - it was crazy - a lots of writers will be affected by this. It's still difficult to create something that's edgy and requires lots of taste and skill but they told us they are working on it and will need 9 to 12 months to release it. Some jobs will stay but many will be lost

will reach everywhere. no escaping it. Oracle is being woven in already and they sell products that are transforming all industries and reducing headcount. they can now show just how lean a company can go.
