Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

In a peculiar situation

How do you live with the fact that you may be called to report to any location any time, while you are still owning a home in another state and not getting a job elsewhere? Are you willing to rent your current home and go, drag it out as long as you can or bite the bullet and move this summer voluntarily in the anticipation of not getting fired later.

There are no guarantees to job or life but these decisions do impact family and children. What are you 700 virtuals doing?

Sorry to say this, but Ifiyou aren’t in Dallas or Atlanta and are not in sales assigned to your area, you are on “borrowed time.”

You will either be presented with an ultimatum to move to (don’t do it!) or given surplus and 2 weeks to find a job before you are off payroll.

I moved to Dallas and was surplussed within 6 months.

Don’t do it!~

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

Still virtual.

Report to office once a month. 90 miles each way. No complaints.

If / when they tell me I need to go there 5 x 8 or that I need to relocate, I’ll politely decline, take the severance, and retire.

I’d retire. I’d prefer a couple more years but whatever.

This is a consequence of not upgrading skills and keeping current. Technology changes fast.

Do not do it! They def dont want you to move. They are hoping you take severance and leave. If you uproot your family & all that, it will be a matter of time before you are let go anyways. They want a lower HC to be in alignment with other companies employee/customer ratios. Tmobile, Verizon, etc. ATT is still bloated.

Find a different job so you can stay where you are.
They don't want you to move, they're doing this hoping you'll quit.

Never uproot your life and move for a corporate job, unless you're in a highly compensated position, and they're paying for your move.

They will not hesitate to lay you off once you've moved, so don't risk the upheaval for yourself and your family. Play it smart. Find something else, FAST!

This is a consequence of letting skills expire and not keeping up with current demands.
