latest on Edmonton move?

I've heard a lot of rumors about how it's not going well so far. Does anyone have any insight on what the latest is?

@3nt
Probably to see who is actually committed to moving and not just saying it. If there is a reluctance, that is a red flag and potential that the employee might not actually relocate eventually choosing to find another job.

@3nt “Here you can collaborate much better with Kearl and Cold Lake workers, who are still 3+ hours away, from this commercial office in Edmonton. Instead of the commercial office in Calgary”

@3nt Sounds more like loyalty testing. Those refuse to voluntarily take early move will be on next list of PIP?

A new communication came out from JW this morning stating that employees are being given the option—“entirely on a volunteer basis”—to make an early move to Edmonton. Since the new building hasn’t been constructed yet, IOL plans to lease a commercial office space in Edmonton in the interim. It seems they want the mobile employees who were offered positions there to leave Calgary as soon as possible, under the pretense of strengthening collaboration

heard that an update was provided today (April 22) to supervisors about the Edmonton move? Any insights from there?

@38c false. The extra time uplift is the same. The “inconvenience” premium was restricted to a fixed amount based on CL, which engineers and all MPT receive while on rotation.

@26c careful. The rotation premium for engineers disappeared in 2015/6. If its back, itll go away soon. And trust me, the food aint free. There is a cost a la your health and weight. I cannot get over how much of a 180 this company has done.

@267 they might as well move everyone to the Kearl camp, at least we'd get rotation premium + free food. 😵😵

The latest I’ve heard from a reputable source is that they may pull in the move date to early 2028 and won’t have a new building. Will be leasing an office space in Sherwood Park or downtown but Sherwood park is likely going to win out.

No new building

With the current rate of resignations, in addition to the involuntary separations, they might not even need the additional building space in Edmonton. Winning! #weareexxonmobil

I hope the houston transformation manager and her small team get put on the chopping block and sacrificed to the devil

The napkin math of what it would actually take to retro a building that was old and under-invested in for 50 years was significantly underestimated. The team and NC came through recently, there will probably be some update in Q2 (May-ish I am guessing) after that visit and some decisions being finalized.
