Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Selection of people to be laid off is actually fascinating

They've been getting rid of the people who knew what they were doing, and consistently holding on to average performers. The remaining competent people are forced to take on most of the leftover workload, while slackers have the time of their lives. It's not only a management failure, it's a conscious decision at the top. The only reason people put up with it is because of the terrible job market. Sooner or later, however, something will have to give.

@d9 That's right I used to work for Data&AI before the August layoffs. There was always negative value being generated at all times.

They did the same in prior layoffs. You can win Peak one year and be laid off the next.

I think your observations are misguided, they got rid of people that were not doing the things that the business deemed important. You can be a top performer hitting all the check boxes but if what you are doing is the equivalent of painting rocks, then the business will do fine without you.

They're just following the mantra of the times: obedience is more important than performance. Useful Id--ts will rule and the Doom Loop spirals on.
