Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What's happening next week?

I'm hearing all Tech will wfh next week, I'm hearing about a 'tsunami of layoffs', I'm hearing of mass debandings, I'm hearing about layoff percentages I don't even want to repeat.

But it's all rumors.

What do you KNOW FOR A FACT?

@ap

As long as we’re doing history lessons… this is entirely unrelated to layoffs though.

@ap remember each one of those!

they all suuucked, but got a progressively higher s8ck rank as time went on, with JD at the helm felt especially rough, but this one feels real rough + real s8ck, which is a new unreal level

it's that swoosh innovation, making layoffs "better and better"!

Not what’s happening next week, but a history lesson to help foreshadow.

• Jun 2017 — Nike announced major restructuring (~1,400 global cuts), with significant impact expected at Beaverton HQ (Consumer Direct Offense shift)
• Jul 2017 — ~255 employees laid off in Oregon (first wave at WHQ)
• Sep 2017 — ~490 additional Oregon layoffs at WHQ (second wave, same restructuring)
• Jul 2020 — Nike announced COVID-era restructuring with ~500+ Oregon layoffs planned at Beaverton HQ
• Oct 2020 — Layoffs began impacting Oregon employees (phase 1 execution)
• Jan 2021 — Total Oregon impact updated to ~700 employees from 2020 restructuring
• Late 2022 (approx. Nov–Dec) — Ongoing digital/tech reorg and cost controls; smaller, non-WARN role eliminations affecting HQ teams (exact Oregon counts not disclosed)
• Early 2023 (approx. Feb–Apr) — Continued restructuring in tech/digital orgs; selective cuts and reallocation of roles at Beaverton HQ (non-WARN)
• Dec 2023 — Nike announced ~$2B cost-savings program (precursor to 2024 layoffs; hiring slowdown and role eliminations begin, including Oregon)
• Feb 2024 — Nike announced new restructuring tied to cost reductions; layoffs begin internally ahead of formal filings (Oregon impact included)
• Apr 2024 — ~740 employees laid off at Beaverton HQ (official Oregon WARN — largest single event)
• Aug 2025 — Nike announced additional corporate layoffs (<1% of workforce); Oregon impact likely but not broken out (non-WARN scale per site)
• Sep 2025 — ~69 IT workers at Beaverton campus laid off via vendor transition (contractor roles; not Nike employees, but HQ impact)
• 2026 (early / ongoing) — Continued restructuring tied to ~$300M cost actions; layoffs expected/ongoing but not yet formally itemized or WARN-filed
