@ks soft....no pride, no morals, easily can be talked down to and told what to do, will never stand up against people doing wrong, will always tow the company line, are usually soft and incompetent, people who could replaced by a 10th grader, people who will defend mgmt, people who will convince you they're working hard when they spend 50% of their time on social media, their tasks are at the level of a chimp, their work either, lacking. act like they're in tech, but have no idea even what they do or why they're there. just collecting a check and simping. hahahhahahaahahaha

@k1 So you associate calloused "hard" hands with tech skills?

I’m 48. I no longer work at oracle but never had pride of anything I did at oracle. Most men were super soft. Most women were horrible people and totally used their meanness to act competent or toss people aside. I live in a very blue collar state. Telling people what I did at oracle was always just embarrassing. The guy who hired me is still there. I bet his hands are as soft as when he was born. All my managers were soft weak mean. They had no tech skills and were just constant talkers. I know it still continues. I hope all of them get let go. They’ve been stealing money for decades.

It wasn't that long ago when a BS degree in computer science was not only a guarantee of a full-time job right out of school (even with no work experience in IT), but it led to long and productive careers. Not anymore. AI is gonna push programmer jobs off the cliff, guaranteed. It will make technical trainers obsolete, not to mention support staff, solution architects, and so on.

The dwindling job market is already reflective of the downward path of IT employment. I would NOT recommend that anyone pursue a college degree in IT. Do so at your own risk.

If I could do it all over again, I would never have gone into tech. Especially with the people who hired me. They knew like one app and have been obsolete since 2008.

@br you missed a very big part of the equation,
as the tech job market continues to devolve into slave labor the size of the d*ldo workers get reamed with will increase 2X from what it is today.

@bf
Nice, but the trouble with the second cycle is that the # of IT employees will shrink radically along with their wages.

IT is a cycle:

Mainframe -> Client / Server -> Cloud (Modern mainframe)

IT employees -> Outsourcing -> AI (Outsourcing) -> IT employees

We are witnessing the start of the implosion of demand for tech workers. Available jobs and salaries will go off a cliff in 3, 2, 1....

It will likely get far worse before it gets better, if it gets better. Oracle is late to the game and so is Microsoft. Both have huge bloated work forces 160k+ and 225k+ respectively. Software development is going to be decimated by AI tools and both companies are largely software development companies. Jack Dorsey was probably right when he said other companies will come to his conclusion when he let 40% of his staff go at block. Cloud business will pull back too as growth slows. It is not a pretty picture. Look in other industries for jobs if they are hiring and look into retraining. Expect a lot less in compensation.
