Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

2026 Goals

Anyone get their goals? Why are there so many? This isn’t manageable. I don’t get what any of them have to do with me. Create 10% digital employees, reduce night shift by 75%. Um I don’t have staff, and I don’t work night shift. I’m assuming night shift is Pune and we only have 1 person. How is 75% reduction possible and why do I care? I’m already doing their work. You already took my staff and gave them to Pune. D-mbest firm ever! I guess they are gearing up for another 10% layoff!

It does not matter what you write in your end of year review or how many goals you complete. It's all pernicious eyewash.

I was sent my Eliza-generated goals on Teams and instructed to paste them in by day's end. They were difficult to understand, and seemed both largely unrealistic and unattainable. The main gist was to use AI to automate 80-100% of everything I do over the next 9 moths. (And I'm not even a developer.) It would seem my time here is growing short.

Goals are meaningless exercise

They are the traps set to nail you during year-end review to deny you bonus and merit increase.

They let you dig your own grave. So make it shallow

Purging Pune and Chennai 's night shift is coming cause their management is ki-ling hardship hours. That's less a goal and more "if you work nights, update your resume".

The goal is for them to force you out by pip / not met expectations rating, or make you miserable enough that you quit. That’s the only real goal they have.

The one and only goal is to get out as soon as possible

We were given a few goals by management. A couple are measurable, the rest are the usual bs that can be interpreted any way they like depending on whether or not they want to keep us at the end of the year.
That's how it's been for many years now. I keep track of everything I do during the year in a Word doc, and then cut and paste it into every possible category when adding comments to goals. It's more than anyone (except maybe Eliza) would ever read. I'm still here, so I guess it worked so far :)

I do not think there is any other bank who is so obsessed with all that ridiculous goals & performance process at BNY. I recall team members stressed out as f... and completely clueless with respect to the process - manager was clueless with respect to the process as well.

The OKRs I’ve seen indicate to shift more work to India staff (50% of volume to India).

And to turn at least 7 analysts to full time employees (meaning layoff tenured employees and replace with these college grads).

I'm guessing you're all US based? I have 4 goals all reasonable (because I wrote them) and agreed with my director. They'd never get away with this sh_t outside the US.

Yep just got the EC + RV wishlist that I have no control over and can do nothing about. Guess I’ll be on PIP or out of a job at the end of the year. This place is a joke - so out of touch with was actually going on at the floor. Good luck to reduce night shift whatever that is. Managers please help yourself by speaking up - you are next !!
