Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What about hiring

Is it just us, or is the hiring ban only 'optional' for certain teams? Anyone heard when they’re planning to unblock reqs? It's a nightmare now. We can't replace leavers

Leavers, due to office closure in Liverpool, are being replaced in Manchester. Albeit just to prevent Pershing from imploding. That said, probably around 500 years experience or more will be replaced by school leavers, but hey, ELIZA will take up any slack.

Our team just hired someone. It’s rare to have a true firmwide freeze.

More likely it’s the group you’re in. For example, could be corporate actions operations that’s frozen, or even operations as a whole. But unlikely that every other part of the bank would get frozen at the same time.

As with most things, it’s typically the groups that don’t have revenue attributed to them that get frozen more often (ops, etc.). The whole idea is to shrink those groups over time and reduce cost year over year, not the other way around. It’s way easier to push a req through if there is a revenue goal against it. Most companies (and definitely most banks and financial firms) work the same way.

The last I heard, Q2 2026. But that's fairly outdated. I would be surprised if they unfreeze any time soon

Have you asked Eliza to do the job? Apparently, she has a magic wand that can do everything except anything useful
