Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Coffee badging- employees being fired for not staying the whole day at the office

How true is this? My manager reminded me to make sure I'm staying the whole day when I go to the office, supposedly he's heard of 40 people being fired due to just swiping their badge and leaving. Anyone hear something similar?

@2wq - they've also unstalled tiny Facial Recognition cameras in the hallways of some locations.

Look up - you are on Candid Camera!

@mr Incorrect. How would they do that when your laptop lid is closed and the camera on the monitor is covered up?

@ma Note: Never logout when you leave. Just close the lid and leave. Logging out "stops the clock". Eventually the network knows you are gone, but not right away.

@304 I got one for Plano Campus. You have to take the badge out of it tho to badge in at door.

@2wq the solution is simple - just leave your badge at your desk during your bio-breaks. (sarcasm, obviously...)

@1a4 Why would you be a rat? It is none of your business if someone else coffee badges as long as they get their work done.

@2wk Truly, the future of work is here. Privacy is so 2015

Our RFID tracking system now monitors every employee movement, including those bold, five minute expeditions to the restroom. Because let’s be honest, peak productivity happens when your toilet breaks can be measured, analyzed, and optimized!

Soon we’ll have valuable insights like:

Who takes the most reflective pauses in front of the mirror.
Which stall has the best throughput efficiency.
And, of course, the new KPI we’ve all been waiting for..Flush Frequency per Hour.

Ah, nothing says “trust and autonomy” like having an RFID tag track your every move, even when you dare to make the perilous journey to the restroom. I’m sure the data scientists are eagerly awaiting insights like, “Employee 2048 took a suspiciously long hand washing break at 2:37 PM.” Can’t wait for my next performance review to include a chart comparing restroom efficiency metrics!

During last week’s roundtable, our senior executive announced that starting April 1, consecutive work-from-home days will no longer be allowed.

She also shared that leadership has been reviewing surveillance footage to address "coffee badging." In one example, an employee was caught badging into the building and their floor before immediately leaving. She said that the RFID chips in our badges allow the company to track real-time movements, showing exactly how much time employees spend at their desks versus in the breakroom, at the copier, etc.

This is already done at other companies. One of my former co-workers was issued a formal warning for being away from her desk too long.

@mr Interesting point on VPN. My team routinely has to connect to various ADMIN VPN's even when in the office to maintain some of the systems we have around the world. I cannot imagine the draconian management even considered that...

When I was on assignment there, our manager actually encouraged us to do this. It was brought up during several Teams calls. It always seemed a little sketchy to me, but I guess every company has a different way of doing business.

@1vp My manager said something is about to be rolled out around ensuring you don't swipe and go home to work. She also said if you have an "assigned" office, you are required to be in 4 days a week.

I don’t have knowledge about anyone getting fired as of yet, but can confirm that they are about to announce that you are expected in the office for your full shift on your in office days and they have plans to verify that not only by badge but also VPN reporting.

@1a4 - be creative! Type out your list on a public library computer; print; use gloves to retrieve your print, buy a box of snail mail envelopes at Staples or Dollar Store, open box in your gloves and take out an envelope, put the print with your message and list of names into the envelope. Buy a stamp, Use your gloves to place stamp on envelope. Drive a couple towns away -- or to the town of the person you dislike most on the team -- and drop it in a Post Office Mail box.

I doubt anyone in HR would care or take action as they are all at the beck and call of Management.

There is an Report Abuse area within Compliance that is supposedly, so maybe address to that area.

All that said, I don't think anyone will give a hoot. So in the spirit of passive aggressive, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and start working less or quiet quit in your seat.

So many complaints about it, however coffee badging is clearly a Good Thing and should be encouraged, not criticised. Not full WFH, but better than nothing.

I know people in my department coffee badge and I would like to anonymously report them to HR but I am scared of retaliation. How do you anonymously report something to HR? My manager looks the other way because it's easier for him to pretend he does not have a problem than to acknowledge and fix the problem.

I’m in GT arch team and manager allows coffee/pajama badging with select people on the team. By his own admission of being too lazy to enforce them to work, he chooses to let these same people that deliver nothing to cause continuing conflict with the rest of the team. THIS is the reason we get low/no raises/bonuses…managers who shouldn’t be managers.

Were they coached and continued the coffee badge behavior? Typically, there are conversations that have to happen and multiple phases of documentation before it reaches termination unless it's a criminal type infraction or a building access violation for example -taking turns swiping another employee badge that doesn't belong to you would be immediate termination for everyone involved.

although if the software is out there, am sure they have someone on it.

this place is SO DRACONIAN.

We already proved that we don't have to be "in" the office to produce Record Revenues.

if they want to cut expenses, how about terminating all those unnecessary commercial leases?

Has anyone seen reports of in office LAN time yet? I am a manager and haven’t seen anything other than the badge swipe dashboard. I have heard rumors that the expectation is to be in four hours a day, but have yet to see any reporting to back that up

Wells Fargo uses time connected to the network in office average. If your average drops too low, they call you out. I bet someone is already tasked with developing a similar system if something is not in place already here. At least they count PTO as an office day at Wells.

MS Teams is rolling out an update in March that will allow a manager to see the wifi network and location of their staff. Expect the bank to rapidly enable the new feature. It is more important to track people than to properly manage your staff, apparently.

Our Global Tech group was told that 5 hours minimum, 3 days a week in the office is what will be looked at. So I do exactly 5 hours and walk out the door and go home to work. The thing is, it all open to interpretation as nothing is officially written down as a policy.

I find it hard to believe that they are going to force managers to come in four days a week and the peasants to come in three days a week. I would think it would be the opposite. In GCB, everyone is going in five days a week starting in March. I heard you get to WFH five days a month though.

@OP in NJ, we have open seating. the hopewell campus. Maybe HR classifies office as you are a manager. We will find out in March says people on the HR last week.

You have to be a band 2 executive in Charlotte to get an assigned office. Band 3's sit with the general population i.e. they sit in open seating with us peasants - 4's and 5's.

This varies by market, in some markets a B3 qualifies for an assigned office and others a B4 can get an office.
