@vc You are allowed to have other businesses (and even other jobs) as long as they are disclosed properly and don’t interfere with availability to perform your WF job.

They can look it up via TheWorkNumber.com - but, you can head that off by locking your information on that site and lock down your credit score so no one new can scan.
They don't always look but they can. Not worth the loss of severance, IMO, unless you have no other choice.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

How many of you know of fellow employees with a side gig? One guy I worked with had a Turo car rental business going. You would be in a meeting with him, hear a couple of honks, and then he would ask you to go away and call him back in a few. No one ever found out or if they did they didn't care.

@fb during notice period you are "on leave" but still an employee.

OP, it's your personal risk tolerance. How flexible is your new employer to wait for notice period to be over? If you'd lose the new job, it may not matter how likely it is for WF to find out.

If you are getting any significant severance, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Just start your next gig after day 60. I'm not willing to throw away a years worth of pay to start another job a few weeks earlier.

WF won’t know unless you post it on linked in or social media or tell someone that is connected to WF and they tell the company. I know for a fact no one checks employment on displaced employees even on notice periods unless they get a “tip”.

How would WF find out? I honestly don’t see the big deal in accepting and working at another company during the “notice” period. You are technically on leave right? Who cares. Wf won’t find out

yes no. I was in training for a few weeks. I didn't take the lump sum so the healthcare benefits never lapsed.

It's OK to accept a job offer within that time frame, as long as you don't actually start working there yet until after the 60 days are up.
