Grok says...

The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metro area and Metro Atlanta are both major Southern U.S. hubs for corporate headquarters, attracting Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies due to business-friendly environments, talent pools, infrastructure, and lower costs compared to coastal cities.

As of recent 2025-2026 data:

  • DFW has a stronger concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, with around 21-24 in the metro area (sources vary slightly by exact boundaries and year). This includes high-profile giants like McKesson (often ranked in the top 10 nationally), AT&T, Energy Transfer, Caterpillar, American Airlines Group, and others in energy, telecom, aviation, healthcare, and construction. DFW has also led the U.S. in corporate headquarters relocations in recent years (e.g., topping lists from CBRE and Site Selection Magazine for 2018-2024 and beyond), drawing moves from companies like Charles Schwab, AECOM, and others seeking Texas's no state income tax, lower operating costs, and central location.

  • Metro Atlanta has about 13-17 Fortune 500 headquarters (metro-focused counts around 13-15, with some Georgia statewide figures higher but including non-metro areas). Standouts include The Home Depot (often top 25 nationally), UPS, Delta Air Lines, The Coca-Cola Company, Southern Company, and Genuine Parts. Atlanta ranks highly (e.g., #3-4 for headquarters concentration in some rankings) and benefits from its massive international airport (Hartsfield-Jackson), logistics strength, and diverse industries like consumer goods, aviation, and logistics.

DFW edges out Atlanta in raw number of Fortune 500 HQs and recent relocation momentum, while Atlanta has iconic global brands in consumer-facing sectors and strong logistics/air access.

Both offer pro-business climates with incentives, growing talent (via universities and migration), and lower costs than places like New York or San Francisco. DFW often highlights energy/tech/finance depth and Texas tax advantages, while Atlanta emphasizes transportation hubs and quality of life/cultural scene.

If you're deciding between the two for business relocation, career moves, or investment, it depends on your industry—e.g., energy/aviation/tech lean DFW, logistics/consumer brands lean Atlanta. Let me know more details for a deeper comparison!

Georgia is a lot nicer place to live. Career wise staying with ATT, Dallas would be better for you. They have been trying to phase out Atlanta for a long time. Just look at the jobs hub and look at available openings, all you need to know right there. Now if something happens to your job at T, then Dallas probably isn’t the place. Atlanta has a lot more opportunities. Depending on where you live and your connections there, idk if I would move to either place.

Property Taxes in Texmex are outrageous if you plan to buy a place. Rent instead.

The only correct answer is the headquarters in Plano. We've already seen the other hubs come and go.

“I understand they’re both nice communities…”

Words never previously uttered when referring to ATL.

I would go to neither, but if I were the moving sort, I’d move to the HQ.

Plano. A lot more opportunities in DFW than Atlanta. It is not the prettiest of pastures, but if you want to work, there is no greener pasture.

I understand they’re both nice communities but you’ll probably have more opportunity both within and without AT&T in Plano
