Unless you land a big position at a big firm, how will they find out? An opportunity can come before the 60 days, and you would be forced to pass to hold out for the severance.

Do it so it accepts you on April 20th and work it out with the new company. They just don't want to pay people here
Because they are vile, greedy evil fu--s who want to not pay you -- you won't find more logic than that. There's nothing in the employee rules that says you can't have two jobs as long as it's not a conflict of interest, so why wouldn't you be able to when laid off, when you need it most?
I just read the paperwork - if you accept a job prior to your official administrative leave end date, you need to call HR at the number provided in the paperwork and they will move up your last day and allow you to still receive your Severance payment.
If I get a job before April 17, I'm not saying sh*t. I deserve my severance.
And I thought it was only if you accepted a job within Walgreens???
They do find out if it's employment and not contracting. I suspect it's something with your SSN being added to payroll. Also, some severance packages stop paying when you're hired elsewhere. Contract work is smart during severance.
I know people who had 2-3 jobs during covid. Taxes su-k next year but hey none of the companies found out
