What does a CAO do? What does your BL’s CAO do? What are their responsibilities and are they really needed at the bank? I feel like it’s another inflated title for someone without a real role. What am I missing?

I call these the Hot Air Positions. While I’m sure they will bend over backwards to convince people they’re doing important work, they are not in the critical path. Of all the CxO’s I would say the COO and CFO are the most crucial at any org. Even the CEO can be replaced and they often do but those other two really know where “the bodies are buried”.
I'm not at USB, but CAO's within a line of business generally look after the money side of the business. For example, for M&A invoices to client or Capital Markets syndicate billing and receivables from other banks, these activities and people who perform them often roll up into the CAO. Sometimes, this also includes balance sheet management if there isn't a product control department to handle the balance sheet issues
There sure are a lot of people on this site who want to complain about other roles. So many jealous or angry people. Maybe we should support each other instead of ripping each other apart.
They ensure the office is administered properly?
