Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Got the news today. Now I can't sleep.

I was completely blindsided. There was never any indication I'd be considered for layoffs. High performer, never had an issue. Over eight years of a great record. For future reference - nobody, and I mean nobody, is ever safe.

Since you didn’t take the VRP and now Job was eliminated, is the severance package the same as the VRP package?

I am 6 months shy of my 40th anniversary. I was offered the VRP last year and didn't take it. I'm only 61. So, I decided to stay on and work as long as I could, and make as much as I could to get me closer to 65 and Medicare. Well, I got JE'd yesterday. Very sad. They let go SOOOO many good people, in all levels.

I find it hard to believe anyone in this day and age feels “safe” of blindsided completely. Everyone, and I mean everyone is up for review when the layoffs come, regardless of high performance etc. you’re essentially just a number. I had 37 plus years with them and my “number” came up for my 3rd layoff in that amount of time. After the 2nd one I decided I was giving them too much time in my head worrying. Corporations are going to do what they do. The manner in which it was done this time is inhumane.

@OP, I’m sorry you felt so blindsided. They did announce in the December town hall that cuts were coming. No one left is safe either. The job market is brutal out there. Take some time for yourself to decide your next move. You don’t have to use the placement services right away. You can wait until you’re ready. I was laid off last April and didn’t start the service until 3 months later.
