Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

How much energy is being devoted to SAS Swag?

It's the top story on insidesas today. They're making commercials for it? There's a dedicated online store, they have pop-up shops around campus.

Why?

Somebody trumped up the vote number sheets.

@110 No I think they had it just right. Someone is butthurt about being downvoted.

"How do I have downvotes?? There is no way people disagree with me... Someone is faking the votes...."

If I had to guess the people faking the votes are the same people that are working overtime creating "trumped up charge sheets" against y'all. The world is out to get you! No fault or accountability needed on your part.

"Someone's butthurt they got downvoted."

You got it bass ackwards. The butthurt one is the one who took action because s/he could not tolerate seeing upvotes. What a dweeb.

Someone's butthurt they got downvoted. Imagine caring what random strangers on some anonymous Internet forum think about you. Now imagine not using Greasemonkey or something to do the work for you, but literally launching the page over and over again in incognito mode to level all the comments as many times as that takes.

That's who we're dealing with here. Not the brightest bulb in the drawer, with too much time on their hands. And all over a + or - that no one will ever see again when this post dries up and commenters drift away, and it ages out in about a week. Pathetic.

Looks like somebody wanted to make things neutral with all of the vote adjustments.

I decided to check out the Company Store via the retirees site. Wow is it boring. Farming it out to Lands’ End took away all the fun little items. All that’s left is clothing and bags. Ah well—twenty years of running SAS booths at trade shows has left me richly supplied with fun SAS doodads anyway.

Loser bling. Brilliant. Call it what it is.

But why is the one section called marketing? That makes no sense. Is that section where marketing people can order low priced things to give away or what?

I’m retired, so I’m just here for the entertainment value of a post complaining about energy being devoted to SAS swag—and thereby devoting energy to SAS swag. Please continue.

"When the team is losing however, the fan base gets blue. Few want loser bling."

Hmmm. Making parallels between Viya and UNCCH football, hahaha. How apropos.

"if the point was to create a collection of executive gifts, this works. most employees aren't going to buy it."

If Viya had moved the revenue needle significantly, employees would be proud to have and expose SAS bling. When the team is losing however, the fan base gets blue. Few want loser bling.

Whoever came up with renewing the SAS store idea at this point in time must not be reading the room.

THIS is what you come to the internet to complain about? Of all the things happening im the world, a swag store ruffled you feathers. Smh.

Other tech companies of swag stores - physical ones at that. This is not new or novel. Heck, this isn't even the first time for SAS.

"stuff for broke folk can be found in the section called Marketing. $4.20 for a pair of socks."

Ha! I actually found a package of 6 pairs of socks on clearance for 99 pennies at Walmart a month ago. What a steal... snatched it asap!

$55 Stanley 30 oz tumbler and it's gray, not even Viya pink or sas blue, which I might have actually paid that much for. when I could buy a fun color Stanley 30oz for $40.

$64 for a Yeti 20 oz rambler when I could buy one with no logo for $45.

peter millar quarterzips for $150. $32 for a leather luggage tag. $55 polo shirts.

if the point was to create a collection of executive gifts, this works. most employees aren't going to buy it.

stuff for broke folk can be found in the section called Marketing. $4.20 for a pair of socks.

@b8 “Do they have panda hats embroidered with “I work in the Art Department, which is safe!”? I bet they’d sell.”

LOL, I’d buy that and wear it proudly to the a kickoff.

Wait…what? You have to BUY your company swag?

How much for the one that says “Viya”?

Do they have panda hats embroidered with “I work in the Art Department, which is safe!”? I bet they’d sell.

Funny. Every other company gives sway away as a form of advertising. Parting with $150+ for a Peter Millar zip up is not on my idea of “swag”

@OP How much energy is being wasted worrying about how much energy is being devoted to SAS swag?

So much energy is being devoted to SAS swag. Nobody is working on anything else. It is an all hands on deck situation.
