Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How are you dealing with burnout?

I've been burning the candle at both ends for a long time, and I just can't seem to do it anymore. Not even the time off helped. I just can't concentrate. I can't get myself to do anything. This is terrifying, because I'm worried it'll lead to me being fired, and in this job market getting shown the door without severance would be devastating. But even knowing that, I'm barely able to get myself to do much of anything. I'm honestly not sure how to shake this off.

OP - I would advise you to use the Nike provided therapy services. They have counseling available online, if you don’t want to see someone in person.

@jb+1

I would recommend looking for another job ASAP. Based on what you described, you WILL be on the next RIF list.

Burnt out in what. Nike's has been the slowest, easiest job I've ever had. I still work and get everything thing in no time. I could literally have a second or third job. I can't imagine someone here is working too hard.

@av I agree. At the end of the day, the ones who are laid off are the ones whom the manager doesn't favor, even if they do work hard. I have been dealing with the worst manager of my career for the past 2 years, a manager who has zero soft skills, insults me regularly, and does everything possible to stall my career, negate my efforts daily, and rate me poorly at every yearly evaluation just because they are eaten up inside by pure jealousy.

If you really care, then do something about it. If not, you can't be surprised.

I hear a lot of people talk about burn out. Some people have truly worked hard and get burned out. Some people, especially here, have been riding easy for years and are claiming "burnout" when they're called on their sh-t.

@b8 Your mental health matters. Why would you put that second to a job that could care less if you are there tomorrow. Have some common sense and self respect. Your boss would replace you tomorrow. Put yourself first!

@OP I hope you’ve gone to your doctor to get support and take the time off to recover using FMLA if you are dealing with something like depression or anxiety.

@ac+1kecz2f7k. AS If your country has a great mental health system in place! Last time I checked, the therapists here in Oregon had a 4 month average wait time!

OP, I am in the same boat with you. I have chronic anxiety throughout the day! On one hand, I am too stressed about job security to focus, and on the other hand I am so scared of not having sufficient concentration because it can cost my job as I know I am not delivering.

For now, all I do is to try and distract myself by something else. I spend hours every day watching movies or scrolling... I am just waiting to see how time passes.

This fact (yes fact) won't help much but I'm going to say it anyway.

Your chance of being laid off isn't tied to your work production. Sad but true. It's more about who brown noses, your salary in the range (top is bad), whims of management, etc. etc.

Build a savings safety net, enjoy your "non-work" life/family/friends and try and remove the connection between your job and your worth. I know I know... I'm basically saying "don't be afraid of what you are afraid of" but... that's the only way.

Not medical advice, etc, etc. But I do know Nike.

Get a therapist. Crowdsourcing your mental health is not going to work.
