Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Is BNY's reputation affecting your job hunt?

I haven't been here long, but the company's public image seems to have taken a real hit lately. I'm starting to worry that having this on my resume might not be helping my applications. Maybe it's just my nerves, but the thought's definitely crossed my mind more than once.

@v3
Your post is full of slop.
Anyone coming from BNY looks desperate at best and a defective mental case of a manager at worst.
BNY is a hindrance. Full stop.
Despite the job market which is starting to improve.

I think this thread is misleading … particularly with the usual suspects commenting their daily slop…

It’s inaccurate to say BNY is a ‘hindrance’ to any of our resumes but I don’t see it ‘helping’ you when there’s over 100k jobseekers laid off by every bank in the industry…

Job insecurity is RIFE right now, competition for external roles is skyrocketing and the number of banks who’ll give you a chance are minimal… whatever you’re experience, swapping the name BNY with any other ‘better-viewed’ bank isn’t going change what’s already happening out there.

@dg exactly, and the publicity from 500 Grant closing doesn’t help. We look like cr--s in a bucket here trying to jump ship before management finishes cutting us down from 44 floors to 12.

@ag same here. I would say if you apply for firms who are smaller than BNY it is an advantage but if you are thinking to apply for JPMC GS or MS than it is definitely a negative impact.

The decline of BNY is an "open secret" and probably not a positive as it was in the past. Especially now, when the presumption is that all the quality employees are long gone.

I’ve had friends who have had interviewers ask them why they are getting so many BNY applications. They definitely know.

The "why are you looking to leave?" question barely comes up...they know why...we all know why. Keep plugging

Not really the contrary happened to me. The company knew the tools i was using in asset serving and we immediately spoke my language. I got hired right away.

It’s pretty clear that technical and specialist roles are probably viewed well by other companies. Management people coming from BNY are probably viewed as a lethal virus.

When I was interviewing, every place I spoke with knew of BYn and what they were doing and didn’t require an explanation as to why I was looking to leave

Oh yes…
Quite a few companies view BNY applicants as members of the Manson family. To them, we are brainwashed toxic brute men and brute women. I have had a few people in my new company ask me why is BNY so seemingly terrible and is it true.
They know. I tell them so. Just keep applying!

Yeah. All the majors know not to touch the toxic waste that is former BNY trash. Give up now and start selling essential oils from home.
