Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Field Assurance Next

Since much of the maintenance on the network has been turned over to contractors, I wonder how much longer will VZW’s Field Assurance Engineers (aka cell tech’s) last before they are caught up in the next round of layoff’s? Lots of long term employees with little to do….

@g5 new to the site and not sure if your reply was directed at me. I cant answer if I was the 'best performer' but I know I was not the worst. When I went from an union associate to 'management' I was instructed not to be the low performer in the group and I'd be safe.
As far as mentioning years of service, not looking for sympathy votes. Just thought it was ironic that VZ is cutting cost but chooses to send me home in an Uber instead of a company provided vehicle gassed by a company fuel card.
I wish you all the best.

@cb Like the others in our market that got the call, you must of been a lower performer but think you were the best in your own mind. Just because you have years behind you does not mean you are the best or a great performer.

What are you talking about, no contractors do work for us in our market! You must have come from Ericsson and shaking like a little girl, GROW UP!

What regions use contractors for day-to-day operations? Worked 24 years (MSC and Cell) in the Mountain and WBV. Left the company in 2022 but never saw a contractor doing day to day operations. In fact, VzW was doing a lot of self-integrations to avoid using contractors.

@cb The manager always gave the last ride home when you dropped your truck off.
Times keep changing for the worse

I am a cell field tech in PA, got laid off. 21 years with VZ, a phone call and generic email was all I got. 1st 18 years were on WNO side. Best part, today I turned in my truck. Instead of my manager taking me home from the switch (15 minutes tops) in his company provided vehicle, he provided me with an Uber. Can't make this stuff up!!

Only silver lining is i feel like I got a head start on the rest of my team. Guessing they won't be far behind but I hope not.

Every market is different on who has done the work at the cells sites. Like the MSc work, it's going to vendors. How many switch techs and system techs and so on were at each MSc. Now most of the markets have one switch tech that looks over the work at many msc's. Remember when there was the maintenance group in each region that worked on the hvac and generators. Long. Long gone

What region are you in? We still do a lot of work so I’m not sure what exactly you're talking about. In my area we have no contractors doing our main work.
