Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Thanksgiving!

I'm thankful that I survived another week at this place. I need these two days off coming up this week just to try to survive until I can get my EIP in March and leave. I set this as my main goal for myself and hope many of you will do the same. Get out of this soul ki-ling place. It seeps into every aspect of your life and the toxic environment corrupts everything it touches. Do not convince yourself this is the way things have to be, this is not living, it is just surviving until the next week. Waiting for the next calamity, next insane idea, next toxic leader or next reassignment inyo a horrible role. Sad place....this Snake Farm!

@1kx Maybe it wasnt a fit for you, that doesn't mean everyone else is like you. Maybe your job su-ked, not everyone is in that job, you should've left or move jobs, thats on you.

Here's one for all you corporate Kool aid drinkers. A SF at VP level/executive level came from illegal immigrants. Now how many of you have had family here for generationsaand aren't afforded those positions? Corporate Merica deserves a good swift kick....

I could not wait till bonus in March this place was slowly ki-ling me, my health, my family time. Since I’ve been gone no health issues, I have work/life balance. This place is as close to he-l as you can get. Full of incompetent TM with their “coaching”. FYI now I make more than you, Im looking better and feeling great at what I do. Idk if you’ve noticed everyone looks miserable, unhealthy and toxic!! The fake oldies staffers that try and pretend this place is a good place to work great environment you’re full of it. Hypocrite at its finest. I will never look back I hope they go bankrupt

@1an you must now work in claims. It is an active hostage situation. They will not let you go and for some Stockholm syndrome has taken hold.

@m6 Congratulations you've written the most inaccurate post I think I've seen on here.
My wife worked for SF for 13 yrs. Left and a year later got a buyout offer, we took it, it was a good offer. She was given a choice, we didnt have to take the buyout. This money is in an annuity that state farm buys for pensioners, its funded and will pay out even if they froze further pension participation. If they did this those affected would roll into the new 401k plan. My wife ended up coming back to state farm and got a 2nd pension. I've worked for a lot of companies some pri lately owned, family owned and big corporations. I work here at SF, you people have zero idea of just how good you've got it. If you don't like it, leave, or get out of the dept. you're in.

@19K, now you get it. The pension will be frozen/discounted just for that fact alone. They do not want people to stay and are trying to run people off. Everything at SF is some type of con, game or scam. They never do the right thing.....ever.

@18e good luck. I can't see any of my younger peers working here more than 5 years, 30 plus seems impossible.

Pension is safe. We were told this last week. I have 34 more years before I can retire and want to collect for another 30 after that. Need it to be around for at least 65 years. Thank you

They dont care about you, your healh, nor your family. They dont owe you nothing but remember you dont owe them nothing. Insurance is an expense. It is not an appreciable investment. Use the light to disinfect their dark lies. Whnever the say they are for the customer remember it is only to excessively line their pockets. Because they portray such a got my act together does not make them ethical.

@js . Name the firm. Bullet point their recommendations. What was SF official decision on the recommendations? If you cannot answer these 3 questions, you sit on a throne of lies.

The pension will not be frozen or touched. The person repeating this is uninformed, which is typical of the rumors on this site.

  1. There is no real reason to do this. No one new has entered the pension plan for 6 years. The market has done so well, that SF hasn’t had to make a contribution since like Covid. Whereas the 401k plan requires annual contributions. The pension plan is also over-funded, unlike pretty much every other pension plan in America. We get annual statements, and it had like 33 billion in assets and 31 billion in liabilities this spring, which is remarkable. And the market has been on a tear since then.
  2. This isn’t how SF operates. If SF were going to freeze the plan, it would have done so 6 years ago when they changed to the 401k. Every year they goes by, it’s even less likely. Fewer people are covered as retirees slowly die off but the market continues to grow plan assets.
  3. I know you all hate State Farm, but Farney is “old” State Farm. There is no real benefit to the company to freeze the plan, and it would only hurt employees. I just don’t see Farney doing it.

@m6 the pension is not useless if you leave before then as long as you livedithin your means, not divorced, did not have substance abuse issues, never paid alimony, and paid your mortgage. Most at SF can't say that because they violated at least two of the previous mentioned. Ive been around most. They are strapped in debt and live beyond their means. So happyI spent my career frugal and conservative. It pays off in retirement.

I'm praying they do away with the pension. It will cause a lot of tenured people to leave, which will basically be the end of SF because any sense of reality and common sense will be out the door. Only thing holding this complete h-ll hole together are the last few remaining group of tenured people they haven't run off yet. Also, most people, even if they have been here 20-25 year will never ever make it to 62-65. The pension is basically useless if you leave before then. 401K match is a much better deal especially for people in that 50 age range for the catch up previsions. They will do much better than the pension..... Ask your self this how many people do you know at SF over the age of say 58? There are basically none left...especially not in claims.

If you are maxed on years or service, does.that mean that old timers will be available for the higher match in the 401k? Might be a good deal

Yes, I have seen it in writing as we hired an outside firm to complete a CBA on freezing the pension, reduction of pension fund management expenses and impact on employee retention/legal exposure. It's happening. 2026 is the year of the purge.

To the person that keeps spewing the pension will be frozen in 2026. Who are you? Have you seen this in writing? Or are you just pulling this out of your a-s?

No one should be thankful for anything SF has drilled into you head making you think they gave you anything. It's another one of those deceiving lies they tell and people buy it. Get it through your head they give you nothing. You WORKED FOR IT!

Sorry @ed, you will never get to enjoy a pension. That ship has sailed and is only an illusion at this point. Once the latest rounds of purges happen the pension gets frozen. Do not count on getting any pension for the long term. 2026 is going to be the last year for any pension contribution and since you have short a short time in the plan, you will get a buy out.

@ed I’m thankful too, but 20–30 years is far off. Since they’ve been targeting employees over 50 for a decade already, I can only imagine what they’ll do to the rest of us before reaching the retirement dates.

I’m thankful for the company pension. I have 25 more years before I retire and love knowing when I do go I will be well compensated. Feel bad for all the new hires that won’t get a pension. I would be so depressed if I knew I missed out on it
