Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Sigh

It’s honestly a sign of how many entitled people we have here who are overly obsessed with wellness week. Working 9 to 5, in person, at your desk… with PTOs… is that really that difficult?

And for HR, if the goal is to let these naïve people out, raise the lifetime discount bar from 5 yrs to 10. You’d be surprised how many people would end up leaving, since that perk, along with wellness week is what so many seem to value the most.

I’m frustrated about losing Wellness Week because it was never actually a “gift.” It replaced the retirement profit-sharing program, and now they’re taking it away as if they were giving us something extra in the first place.

And honestly, the people blaming HR are making me laugh. Do you really think HR—or TH—made this decision? She may have been the one to announce it, but I highly doubt she was the one who decided it.

Let’s be real: RTO is inevitable. But taking away Wellness Week and constantly reorganizing teams isn’t helping anyone. The SLT needs to figure out what the right path is—and stick to it.

I get why we switched to the principle engineer model. Leadership is applying the sweatshop model to white collar jobs. But it’s simply not working.

Hiring 9 cheap employees with 1 overseer is not more productive than 3 intelligent & invested people. We work with our brains. Not our hands.

But our “leaders” are too far removed from doing any real work to understand.

tech is like 20% remote . The only people that left over RTO were execs, mostly SD+ level that didn't want to move back to campus.

@ae Haha, nope. Most are sitting in the office on zoom all day with their fully remote counterparts.

@ab who lost their jobs for not rto? I have swe, no one lost their job for rto. Lots of underperformance even relative to the industry too

@a8 yep! Recruiters, People Solutions and Total Rewards allow fully remote in HR. I’m sure all my software engineers who lost jobs for not moving to “PHK” appreciate that.

I'm unaware if it's the same for FTEs, but some ETWs look forward to that extra paid week off in summer since we have to bank our measly vacation hours for winter power down. Kinda su-ks when I have to save 70% of my annual accrued time off for a holiday I don't celebrate. Or ya know, just get paid for three days out of 10. That paid week in August gave myself and others a chance to have a summer vacation without having to break our back to hustle for it.

@a6 wait, HR has fully remote employees?! Haha at least we practice what we preach. What a joke

Is it just People Solutions or do other areas have remote too?

New construction home in Bethany and 2025 BMW X5 lease is what OP values the most.

When does HR (specifically the Nordstrom dominated People Solutions) get to return to office? They've magically been made fully remote while others are ordered to return 4/1. Not a good look TH.

Ah, the timeless gratitude = compliance philosophy. Inspiring stuff! Maybe HR can frame that next to the ‘Just Do It’ slogan

So HR uses sleight of hand to dock everyone's total compensation by 3% and they're supposed to be happy about it? Sure buddy
