Union Pacific please please just furlough me instead of trying everything in your power to fire me along with everyone is in this god forsaken Houston shop!

The best time to jump off of a sinking ship is BEFORE it goes under water, not after. Save yourself and leave on your terms, not theirs.
For what it's worth, whether fired or furloughed, it is better on the other side. Everyone thinks money when they hear rail work, when I explain what had to be done or tolerated for that money it's almost always a wide eyed "f that". My insurance is just as good if not slightly better for same cost of the national plan, huge leap in standard life insurance covered by employer, no hassle paid sick time and vacation time I wouldn't have seen till 20 years in rail.
