Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I'm curious if "Project M" was leaked by employees or if DELL leaked it themselves

BI - Business Insider has an entire story about this NDA thing and much of it is accurate however, I can't help but wonder if it was EMPLOYEES who leaked all this or if Dell did it to try and gain interest or something...

Kind of how Apple leaks product info/details about new products.

Dell isn't "selling" a new product here but what they are doing is moving towards a new platform and it's possible by Dell leaking this, it'd make customers/future customers think "hey, I like what they are doing! Let's think about Dell instead of HP!"

Business Insider? That's about as credible as the National Enquirer!

@jn Why wouldn't they lol? Of course a news outlet would pay for inside information... How else do you think they even get inside info from companies?

At this point, it's no longer a trade secret lol.. Not that it ever technically was but again, my guess is that Dell purposely "leaked" all of this; and assuming I'm correct, is a breach in contract. IF it was dell who leaked the NDA then that opens the doors for employees to sue for... breaching their own NDA contract.

@jn It was a puff piece. If an employee leaked and not mgmt, they wouldn’t be singing mgmt’s praises for how brilliant they are for pretending it’s AI that is replacing us.

@jk News sources generally don't pay for illegally leaked info like that. And it's even potentially illegal if it's a "trade secret", which Dell would certainly classify it as.

@a3 I don't disagree but, given how Dell lays people off left and right... I can absolutely see someone taking screenshots of that type of info before their access is cut off, then going to BI for a quick buck to leak it.

Has to have been a leak. If an employee reported on it there would have been a lot more emotion and reports how anyone on the program is burned out.

The article itself wasn't exactly written as a report based on insider information, rather as a nice piece of marketing saying how cool and cost-effective the project aims to be.
Thus way closer to corporate interests than to a low-level employee leak.

Dell likes talking to Business Insider. JC posts their articles on LinkedIn fairly frequently.

Strategic leak makes sense

My guess is you're right.

"Documents seen by Business Insider include an onboarding presentation and a "guidance and resources" document uploaded to the project SharePoint, describing its scope and intended outcomes. Business Insider has also seen an NDA agreement sent to a Dell employee."

A document describing merely the scope, and intended outcomes (but not the HOW) is pretty much exactly what you'd leak if you wanted good press coverage of something new and innovative you're doing.

Some low-level employee would have absolutely ZERO motivation to take that risk to just suddenly leak something to "Business Insider".

And since it's a leak, Dell can just claim it never happened if they ever decide to not go forward with it, it gets delayed, etc.
