Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Do not accept the offer!

How they can expect anyone to accept an offer that provides little to no details about your position, your location, the costs of your benefits, the status of your pension, etc is beyond me. I wish I knew their end game, but it all seems shiesty to me. They are expecting people to accept an offer with no real start date, so many what ifs. They are incentivizing it with up to a $15,000 sign on bonus that you don't get until 6/12 months after the close of sale, which is unknown, and then clearly state that any disciplinary or code of conduct violations voids the bonus, and nobody knows what the policies of the company are. So how many would actually receive this bonus? Where is the Union in all of this? Union dues are paid to have them protect you, where is the protection here?

@ah ATT employee here; Craft 29 years. If you are saying NetworkCo is getting a pension I’d get that in writing! They quit offering pensions to anyone hired at ATT ( union) back in 2009. Only thing they have is 401k. 6% match I believe. Good luck to you all.

All I have to say is good luck with AT&T I used to work for Cingular Wireless which became AT&T and they love to micro manage the heck out of everything. All this need to know is how they operate. Hope those of you going to the new company like corporate he-l, because that is exactly what you will get. You think you're miserable now, just wait.

That’s was the point of their 3 year agreement. 3 years to get it done. “It” being move union work to enterprise and get rid of what’s left of Mass markets. Including employees. If your retirement window is 3 years stay. If it’s longer goto the new company. Think att break up….goto the new “baby bell” to have a career. The one at lumen ends in 3 years.

@bd 💯, the future successorship language in the new contract is meaningless because Lumen has nothing left to sell that is supported by CWA members. AT&T announced a year ago they plan to decommission their copper network by 2030. Lumen will not be far behind.

Taking a position with this new company is nothing short of a poison pill if your tech with time and title. The corrupt union bosses up here in the PNW and all there little corrupt minion stewards should be held accountable for all the lies they told the last couple months. Steak and lobster things won’t change and everythings gonna be awesome. New company will be union after time 🤣 They constantly told us they had lumen and At&t by the ba--s……IT WAS ALL BS AND LIES💯

CWA employees at Lumen has been dwindling for the last twenty years. 4K members now and will probably be reduced to under 1K by the next contract. The alternative of accepting a position at NetworkCo doesn’t look too much more promising. I think the NetworkCo job offers was necessary to facilitate the sale, but the long term job security is unfortunately a thing of the past.

@ah But don't forget, they have to keep copper because some of the fancy enterprise services run on it. No telling how that will take to update and upgrade.
It's weird how they are keeping everything on a need to know basis.
Union!?! What union?!? They sold the members out and they know it. And now they can't fight the sale. Stupid move on their part.

They gave us more details over here. But they also seemed to have gone by geography instead on seniority with the offers.
I have +25 years, but I'm also under 50, so im too young for the full pension. There will be a pension and 401k with the new company, they've made that clear in publications and in the video call yesterday.
The benefits they offered me are nearly identical to what i currently have with regards to health care and time off. The pay rate they offered me was a couple of cents higher an hour than what I make now.
They've said we stay in our current garage with our trucks until the real estate situation becomes more clear.
If you are close enough to retirement, id recommend staying. If not, the choice is obvious. Copper is going to go away before the end of the decade. We don't have the equipment to keep it working. The current corporate leadership has no interest in it. And an extended contract is no guarantee of continued employment. Things don't stay the same forever.
Do what is best for you and your family, but don't let fear bind you into making a poor decision.
