I mentioned where I work during an outing this weekend, and someone actually asked what that was. He was young, maybe early 20s, but can you imagine a decade or so ago someone not knowing about Xerox? I wasn’t offended or anything, but if there’s ever been a sign of where the company stands now, that was it.

@ad Why does it bother you??
This happened to me many times during my xerox tenure. People under 40 have literally no clue who Xerox is or what they do.
They sold the 3D metal printing business last year, which failed because of the Xerox process. Just like everything xerox attempts to do.
1: First put a team together of people that no nothing about the project's technology.
2: Jump in with both feet and no direction.
3: Add more folks to the program because it's going nowhere.
4: Over complicated the original design and make it unserviceable.
5: Throw in the towel and sell the whole mess to someone.
6: Promote the project managers
Xerox everyone knows Xerox does not make copiers
They are a tech powerhouse, they sell IT services, back end process automation (ACS / Conduent), 3D Liquid Metal printers, CareAR, Bridge sensors, personalized communications, AI services. Oh maybe NOT all those things
Xerox is a copier dealer in a decline business YES $30 share to $3 in six years
Would you like to buy some stock in a shrinking non profitable business?
Xerox needs to change to something modern. Kinda like …. MagnaStatictron corporation. Something right outta the 1950’s. Their credibility is completely gone by now. Change the name and rebrand the company.
How about Serviced Merchandise?
Omg this happened to me today, I said I work for Xerox and spent 5 mins explaining the history and just bought Lexmark and they asked me if that was someone from Superman!
@ad likely waiting for severance like most people.
So tell me again … why are you working there?? 🤔
I meet people all the time who have never heard of Xerox. I meet people in their 40’s who have not heard of the company. When I told a customer (who works in IT) that we had bought Lexmark they had never heard of them either.
